Columbia, La. October 13, 1913 Page 4; Column 1 J. MONROE WARNER KILLED. J. Monroe Warner was shot and killed by D.D. Pool early Wednesday morning. The affair occurred in the public road in the lower part of Ward Two where both of them lived. It seems that the two men met and had some words, ending by Warner being killed. There were no eye witnesses and the particulars of the quarrel are not known. The body of the dead man was entered in the cemetery here Thursday. The deceased was a member of several fraternal organizations who participateted [sic] in the funernal [sic] services. He lives [sic] a widow and three children and a number of relatives and friends who mourn his death. Pool came to Columbia immediately after the shooting and surrendered to the sheriff, who lodged him in the jail. It is not known what line of defense he will make, but it is presumed that he will plead self-defense. Both men were well connected and influential farmers and the affair is generally deplored by the entire community. Additional Comments: Joseph Monroe Warner was interred at Columbia Hill Cemetery in Columbia, La.
