All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Obituary of Delaney Ivan Baxter February 26, 2004 Services for Delaney Ivan Baxter, age 91, of Grayson will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 26, 2004 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia. Rev. Howard Hudson, pastor of the Grayson United Methodist Church and friend, will officiate. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston. Mr. Baxter went to be with Jesus and his loved ones at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, February 22, 2004 at the Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston. Mr. Baxter was a Baptist and a member of the Clarks Baptist Church. He was a native of Lincoln Parish and grew up in the Douglas Community. He attended elementary and high school at Choudrant and earned a scholarship to attend Southern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette and graduated with a degree in Agriculture. He enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Air Force near the beginning of World War 11 and was stationed at Selman Field in Monroe, Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City and in Salt Lake City, Utah before being in the South Pacific campaigns for three years. Returning home to his wife, Ruby, they made their home in Caldwell Parish. Mr Baxter was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mary Stucky Baxter, his wife of almost 62 years, Ruby Cook Baxter who died in 2002, his brothers: Marshall Baxter and Maurice Baxter and his sister: Thelma Baxter Lowery. He is survived by his brother: Clyde Baxter of Ruston, three sisters: Mrs. Mavis Baxter Dowling and her husband: Louis of Ruston, Mrs. Ruby Baxter [Roy] Hinton of Calhoun and Mrs. Velda Baxter Hinton of Shreveport, two special sisters-in-law: Mrs. Myrtis Cook Springer and her husband: Richard of Arcadia and Mrs. Maudie Beard Baxter Edwards of Ruston and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Baxter was a past president of the Lions Club and was a member of the Caldwell Country Club. He was an avid golfer. He and his wife, Ruby were instrumental in working to get a better water system for the Village of Grayson and surrounding area and were active members of the beautification committee to make Grayson a better place to live. Delaney was a kind man and his gentle spirit drew others to him with respect. He was loved by all who knew him. Pallbearers will be Jim Lowery, Elmo Pesnell, Jason Sistrunk, Donald Baxter and John Sistrunk. Honorary pallbearers are Iley Evans, Don Evans, Huey Baum, James Denison and Richard Springer. Visitation will be Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m. until time of services at Riser Funeral Home, 7131 Hwy 165, Columbia, La.
