Services for J. D. Grant, age 86 will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 20, 2005 for the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Charlie Hood, chaplain of the War Veteran's Home and Rev. Jeff Wyant officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Hazel at the Old Bethel Cemetery west of Clarks. J. D. Grant, a World War II veteran and a resident of the Northeast Louisiana War Veteran's Home passed away on June 17, 2005 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe after an extended illness. Mr. Grant was born in Clarks on July 18, 1918 to the union of Horace E. and Alice Youngblood Grant. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother: Elzie L. Grant and his sister: Ethel Grant Cassells. Mr. Grant was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater of operations, surviving the landing on the beaches of Normandy on "D" Day. He retired from Malone and Hyde as a warehouse supervisor, after working for Olin-Matheson and the Ammunition plant in Minden until its closure. His heart was always in Caldwell Parish where he often visited his friends and family. He is survived by his sisters: Effie Crowley, Frances Gilbert and Margie Dieffert and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Earl Wyant, Ron Wyant, Buddy James, Calvin Wyant, Neal Walters and Marshall FIsher. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM until service time at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia.
