Obituary:  Gerald W. "Jerry" Dark
April 30, 2004

Services for Gerald W. "Jerry" Dark, 69 of Columbia will be held
at 11 a.m., Friday, April 30, 2004 from the chapel of Riser Funeral
Home in Columbia with Rev. Shane Duke and Rev. Don Boyett officiating.  
Interment will follow in the Sandy Bayou Cemetery.
    
Mr. Dark was born in Columbia on May 17, 1934 to the union of
Ross Clayton and Maude Sanders Dark and died Tuesday, April 27,
2004 at the Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe.
    
He was a retired farmer and also worked a number of years for 
the Defense Mapping Agency in St. Louis, Missouri.  He had a degree 
in geology from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe.  He
also served in the U.S. Air Force.
    
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Billy Dark 
and his nephew: Billy Ross Dark.
    
Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Mary Beth Debnam Dark 
of Columbia, his daughter and son-in-law: Jeri Lynn and Michael Newsom 
of New Hebron, Mississippi, his daughter: Kay Elizabeth Beckley
of West Monroe,  his brother and sister-in-law: Lanny and Irma Dark
of Columbia, and his grandchildren: Jennie Meredith, Brittney Newsom,
Laken Newsom, Lacey Newsom, Ashley Newsom and Stephen Beckley.
    
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday from
9 a.m. until time of services at Riser Funeral Home, 7131 Hwy 165, 
Columbia.
