Harris March 2, 2004 Services for Kenneth R. Harris, age 79, of Columbia will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2004 from the Grayson Baptist Church in Grayson with Dr. B. Gray Allison, Rev. Jay Morgan and Rev. Glenn Meredith officiating. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson. Mr. Harris was born in Pope, Mississippi on March 12, 1924 to the union of Benjamin Alston and Georgia Moore Harris and died Saturday, February 28, 2004 at the Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. He was a retired merchant having owned and operated the Piggly Wiggly Store and Tru-Value Store in Columbia for over 44 years. He was a member and deacon of the Grayson Baptist Church in Grayson. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army where he received the Purple Heart. He was injured on the island of Biak. He was also a founding member and on the Board of Trustees of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a member of the Haven Foundation and was instrumental in establishing the Caldwell Parish Library and Citizens Medical Center. Survivors include his wife: Faye Beard Harris, his son and daughter- in-law: Stan and Marsha Harris, his grandchildren: Jonathan Hunter Harris and Meredith Lee Harris all of Columbia, his sister-in-law: Freida Beard Brian and her husband: Dr. George C. Brian of Monroe, and several neices and nephews. Pallbearers will be Brent Adams, Alan Anthony, Roland Borden, Jonathan Harris, Alston Nelson and Jeff Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are J. Lester Duncan, Dr. George Brian, Elgin McFadden, Jackie Barrett and John Glenn Meredith. Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m.until 8 p.m. at Riser Funeral Home, 7131 Hwy 165, Columbia and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time at the Grayson Baptist Church.
