All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Obituary of Leon Basco May 13, 2004 Services for Leon Basco, 83, of Columbia will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2004 from the Grayson Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Morgan, Rev. Cecil Gregory, Rev. Alan Miller and Rev. James Carson officiating. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson. Mr. Basco was born on February 21, 1921 in Gorum, La. to the union of Napoleon and Elizabeth Martin Basco and died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. He graduated from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He was principal of Homer Elementery School in Homer for 14 years and principal of Caldwell Parish Junior High School in Columbia for 19 years. He was a Boy Scout Master Leader for 24 years where he earned the Silver Beaver Award. He was a 50 year member of the Kiwanis International and served as past Lt. Governor for La., Miss, and West Tennessee Districts. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a Shriner and member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge #164 in Columbia. He was a member and deacon of the Grayson Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife: Helen Alexander Basco of Columbia, his sons and daughters-in-law: Stephen and Cindy Basco of Ruston, Tommy and Sharon Basco of Columbia and Nathan and Tracy Basco of Columbia and his grandchildren: Amanda Allbritton and her husband: Craig, Melissa Gardner and her husband: Jason, Stephanie Basco, Lance Leihr, Jessica Basco, Nathan Basco and Alex Basco. Pallbearers will be Jason Gardner, Craig Allbritton, Lance Leihr, Nathan Basco, Tim Bates, Richard Alexander, Curtley Alexander and Alex Basco. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia and Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of services at Grayson Baptist Church.
