All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Obituary: Lois Marie Knight Woods December 11, 2003 Services for Lois Knight Woods, age 83, of Columbia will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2003 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Pam Roy officiating. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson. Mrs. Woods, a retired state employee, was born in Pine Bluff, Ar. on September 17, 1920 to the union of Kennon and Amelia Pardue Knight and died Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe after a short illness. At the age of 9 she moved with her family to Clarks, La. where her father was a foreman with La. Central Lumber Company. After graduation from Clarks High School, she went to Business School in Shreveport, La., then worked at local banks before she began her career as a stenographer for the State of Louisiana Family Services, then known as the Welfare Office in Columbia. She received many honors during her employment with the state, including Businesswoman of the Year, before retiring after 28 years to begin a second career at the Caldwell Watchman newspaper, with her husband, Howard Thomas Woods, whom she married in 1940. She wrote a Columbia News column and served as co-owner and co-editor with her husband, and later her son, Theo, until retirement in 1990 when the newspaper was sold. During the years when her children were growing up, she was active in Columbia High School and later Caldwell Parish High School Band Boosters Club. She was peceded in death by her parents, her brother and sisters: Travis Knight, Cannie Mae Busch and Lucille Caillet, her husband, Howard T. Woods and her son, Howard Theodore "Theo" Woods. She is survived by two daughters: Carole Boyd-Jones and her husband, Phillip of Carrolton, Texas and Tommie Lane Woods McCarty and her husband, Daniel of Grayson, six grandchildren, Bill Boyd Wendy McLean, Michael Boyd, Vicki Brunson, Daniel McCarty and Erin Mc- Carty, eight great-grandchildren, her half-brother: Bill Knight, several neices and nephews and a special friend, Bobbie Swim. Serving as pallbearers are Daniel McCarty, Jr., Daniel McCarty III, Bill Boyd, Clint Brunson, Raymond Caillet and Earl Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are Wilson Boudreaux and Phillip Jones.
