May will be held Monday, July 28, 2008 at 2PM from the Columbia Heights Baptist Church in Columbia. Officiating will be Rev. Jay Morgan, Rev. James Prince, and Terry Johnston will deliver the Eulogy. Mr. Waymon , as he was known to all who knew and loved him, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia at the age of 95 after a brief illness. Burial will be at the Hickory Springs Cemetery in Jackson Parish with all services under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be on Sunday July 27 from 4PM to 8PM at Riser Funeral Home located at 7131 US Hwy 165, Columbia. Waymon was born on Nov.13, 1912 in Caldwell Parish to Dudley M. and Linnie Pankey May. He lived his entire life less than two miles from where he was born. He was descended from Joseph May, a pioneer who bought land and settled in Jackson Parish in 1853. Waymon loved to tell stories of the experiences of his long life. His favorite story was about capturing a red wolf and displaying it on leash at Capps Inn in Columbia. Mr. May served on the Caldwell Parish Police Jury from 1948 until 1976, serving as President during one term. He retired from his job as a school bus driver in 1969. Many people in Caldwell Parish remember riding Mr. Waymon's bus to school. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church. Waymon always had a beautiful vegetable garden that he loved to show off and share the bounty with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Wayne May, son in law Jack D. Johnston, brother and sister in law, Woodrow and Ruth May, sister and brother in law, Loyce and George Womack. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Vivian Raster May of Grayson. Daughters, Dewanna Johnston of Columbia, and Dianne Johnson and husband F. L. "Sonny" Johnson of Winnfield. Grandchildren, Terry Johnston and wife Kandy of Columbia, Tonyah Meredith and husband Lyn of Columbia, Misty Wilkins and husband Paul of Columbia, David May and wife Donna of Columbia, Jeffrey Johnson of Winnfield, and Steven Johnson of Winnfield, brother & sister in law Hollis and Earlene May of West Monroe and five great grand children. Pallbearers include F.L. "Sonny" Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson, Steven Johnson Terry Johnston, David May, Steve May, Ronnie McIlwain and Lyn Meredith.
