Julius Russell and Rev. T.O. Arrington officiating. Burial was in Hickory Springs Cemetery, west of Columbia, under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral home Inc. of Columbia. Mr. May died Tuesday, February 25, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Mr. May was a member of the Columbia Heights Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a retired engineering technician with the U.S. Soil Conservation. He served on the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Community and County Committees, the Caldwell Parish Jury Commission, and the Caldwell Council on Aging. Mr. May was also a Veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Thigpen May and his parents, Dud and Lennie Pankey May. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nelda Lay May of Grayson; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Ronnie McIlwain of Grayson, Linday and David Williams of West Monroe, and Joyce and Greg Copeland of Columbia; 11 step-children; brothers, Waymon May of Grayson and Hollis May of West Monroe; sister, Loyce May Womack of Columbia; grandchildren, Lorie, Mark and Melissa McIlwain, Jeremy and Kristy Copeland, and Davey and Haley Williams. Pallbearers were Jack Johnston, Prentis Waggoner, Jr., F.L. Johnson, Gary Franklin, Steve May, Clint May, Jim Steele and Dusty Steele. Honorary Pallbearers were James Wheeler, Wilson Grant, Homer Meredith, Elijah Haddox, Ed Parmer and Gene Dupree.
