Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of the Riser and Son Funeral Home in Columbia, with the Rev. Arlie Bratton of Columbia Eastside in charge. Burial was made in Welcome Home Cemetery, located on the Holum Highway, just east of Grayson. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nettie Monroe of Grayson; three sons: Bishop Monroe of Ruston; Johnie Monroe and Hardy Monroe, both of Grayson; four daughters: Mrs. Myrtle M. Guercico of White Castle, Mrs. Irvin Joyner of Holum, Mrs. Margaret McGee of Grayson and Mrs. Mable Haggens of Okinawa; one sisters, Mrs. Sue Shelton of Winnsboro; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Monroe, a retired planter, also leaves many friends here who regret to hear of his passing.
