Headline: R. M. May, Policy Juror, Ward 9, Dead

Robert M. May, aged 63 years, prominent Caldwell Parish merchant and planter, 
died Friday afternoon about two o'clock.  His death, attributed to heart 
failure, came while at work on farm near Cotton Plant in Ward 9.

His death came as a distinct shock to his many friends, as he was well known 
and respected throughout the parish.

The deceased was born and reared in Ward 9 of this parish and at the time of 
his death was a member of the policy jury from his ward.

Mr. May is survived by a widow and five sons, Dewey, Holly, Clyde, and Hunter, 
who reside at the family home, and Garland May, who operates a barber shop in 
Chatham.  He also leaves two brothers, Dr. I. B. May of this city, and Dawes 
May, who resides in Ward 4, and one sister, Mrs. W. O. Ewing of Chatham.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Old Union Baptist Church 
near Cotton Plant, with Rev. J. D. Kitchingham, pastor of the Columbia Baptist 
Church, in charge.  Rev. Kitchingham was assisted by Rev. Eizah Hearne of 
Chatham and Rev. Dennis Fordham of Bay.

Interment was made in the Old Union Cemetery, and large crowds, who will miss 
him greatly, attended the funeral and paid their last respects.
