All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Obituary of Melva Biggs Cody May 26, 2004 Services for Melva Biggs Cody of West Monroe will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2004 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Paul Edwards and Rev. Bill Hearne officiating. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson. Mrs. Cody was born in Grayson to the union of Moses and Ruth Hanchey Biggs and died Monday, May 24, 2004 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was a retired school teacher having taught in Grayson and Clarks schools before moving to Lake Charles where she taught many years. She was a member of the Yeager Methodist Protestant Church in West Monroe. She was very active in the Methodist Protestant Conference where she served on the Board of Missions for many years, was a Bible School Director for some twenty years and was director of the Children's Church for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Claude Cody, her sister: Clyda Biggs Brown and her brother: Hanchey Biggs. Survivors include her brother-in-law: Emmett Lee Brown of Grayson, her cousins: Janis Hearne Tucker of West Monroe, Ruth Adkins of Baton Rouge and Yvonne Braley of West Monroe and special friends: Phyllis Coughran of West Monroe and Janice Parker of Florence, Ms. Pallbearers will be James Brown, Joel Adkins, Billy Hearne, Jr., Braudice Bennett, Byron Carlisle and Ricky Foster. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of services at Riser Funeral Home, 7131 Hwy 165, Columbia.
