Officiating will be Reverends Mark Crook and James Simons. Burial will follow in the Sikes Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home in Sikes, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until services. Mr. Newsom, Sr. age 78 of Sikes, Louisiana died at 10:00 p.m. Friday January 26 2001 at home. Mr. Newsom was a native and life-long resident of Winn Parish, member of the Shady Grove Church, veteran of World War II where he served in the following Campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhimeland and Central Europe. He worked in the timber industry , built homes for the Carroll Building and Construction before being employed by the Louisiana Highway Department (DOHD). At the time of his retirement from DOHD he was supervisor of the mowing crew for the Winn Parish Unit. Survivors include his wife, Lizzie Mae Griffin Newsom, and one son, Laurie James Newsom, Jr. of Stonewall, LA; one sister, Vauna Dean Richardson of Shreveport, LA; one sister-in-law, M. Katherine Newsom of Olla, LA; four grand- children: Belinda Dawn Newsom of Stillwater, OK, Shari Renee N. Favors of Stonewall, LA, James Sterling Newsom and Amanda Dale Newsom of Stonewall, LA, and one great-grandchild, James Franklin Favors and a whole host of nieces and nephews. The pallbearers are: Darrell Newsom, Keith Newsom, Kevin Richardson, Carl Walker, Danny Zeigler and George Zeigler.
