Pleasant Baptist Church, west of Columbia with Rev. Chuck Stapleton, Rev. Mike Green and Rev. Doyle Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery. Mrs. Alger was born in Caldwell Parish on September 4, 1911 to the union of Mack and Verdie Gordon Stamper and died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at the Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: Marion M. May and Marvin Alger, her daughter: Nelda May Griggs, her sister: Frances McClary and her brothers: Andrew Stamper and Ozro Stamper. Survivors include her sons: Marion E. "Gene" May and his wife: Charlene, Waylon E. May and his wife: Mary and Everett May and his wife: Pat all of Columbia, her daughters: Gloria Herrington and her husband: Lowery of Vidalia, Louise Powers and her husband: Earl of Winnsboro and Yvonne May McKeithen of Baton Rouge, her son-in-law; Harold G. Griggs and his wife Andrea of West Monroe, her step-children: Marcelle Hester and her husband: Ellis of West Monroe and Cloyce Alger and his wife: Wanda of Flower Mound, Texas, her brothers: J.V. Stamper of Shreveport and Amos Stamper of Sarepta, her sisters: Annie Walters of West Monroe, Mary Lee Smith of Kilgore, Tx. and Ona Mae Glascock of Denham Springs, twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
