Elmo May, prominent citizen of Ward 5, died early Wednesday afternon at his home after an illness lasting several months. He was 87 years old. Funeral services will be at 3pm Thursday (today) at the Fellowship Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Alton Hodnett of West Monroe in charge. Burial will be in the nearby chruch cemetery under the direction of the Riser and son Funeral Home of Columbia. Mr May was a retired planter and was a member of a pioneer family of this parish. Among survivors are his wife, Mrs Maggie Coates May of Ward 5, five sons - Clyde May of Ward 5, who is a former police jury member of his ward; Marion M. May, who is employed with the Louisiana Forestry Commission and living in Ward 5, Leo May of Columbia Hgts. who operates a place of business in Columbia; Aryon May of Winnsboro, Gordon May of Monroe and William May of Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs Effie Hinton and Mrs Arvenia Bernheim, both of Monroe. He is also survived by a brother, D.M. May of Ward 9, who served as member and president of the Caldwell Parish School Board a number of years; also two sisters, Mrs Onie Harper of Serepta and Mrs Dottie Simpson of Serepta, near Shreveport, both former residents of this parish; also 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
