O. Sherman, a prominent 87-year old resident, died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Caldwell Hospital here after a lengthy illness. Dr. Sherman is the father of Columbia Mayor Jim Graves Sherman. He was a 1911 graduate of Tulane University and served as a medical doctor in the U. S. Army during World War I. Dr. Sherman practiced medicine in Caldwell Parish from 1913 until his retirement in 1950. Dr. Sherman was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church, the Columbia Masonic Lodge No. 164 F&AM and the Consecrate at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edwin House and the Rev. J. D. Kitchingham officiating. There will be masonic graveside services at the Columbia Cemetery. Burail will be under the direction of riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Other survivors include his widow, Mrs. Zudie Jones Sherman of Columbia; and three grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be given to the building fund of the First United Methodist Church.
