Steele, 61, native of Caldwell Parish and a former West Monroe Police Chief died in a West Monroe hospital on Thursday night of last week. A native of Vixen, located in Ward Five of Caldwell Parish, Mr. Steele had been working with the city police department in West Monroe since April 1955, in a second period of employment after serving as chief. He was police chief for four years, starting in 1937 and had lived in West Monroe since 1935. In Ward Five, he had been a barber and owner and operator of a grocery store. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Mulhearn Funeral Home with Revs. A. T. Mitchell and E. L. Tasner officiating. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Alma Steele of West Monroe; one son, Roy Steele Jr. of West Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Houston Ewing of Chatham; and two grandchildren. Additional Comments: NOTE: Roy Milton Steele was the husband of Alma O. MAY, daughter of Eli Joseph "EJ" MAY and Olivia MCFERRAND MAY.
