Jim Goodman and Rev. Johnny Barnhill officiating. Interment was under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Mr. Powell, the son of the late Jesse and Maudie McBroom Powell, was born in Olla on April 16, 1932. He died at the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia on July 17, 2001. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, and also retired from the Caldwell Parish School Board as a custodian and school bus driver. Survivors include his wife, Syble James Powell of Kelly, three sons, Dave Powell, Andrew Powell, and B. J. Powell, all of Kelly; one daughter, Vickey Dickey of Kelly; three sisters, Annie Mae Mitchell of West Monroe, Jesse Mae Martin of Olla, Bobbye Mae Hendrix of Kelly; four grandchildren, Michelle Peppers, April Benavente, Joshua Powell, and Victoria Powell; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Ellis Pepper, Billy Joe Rials, Dylan Wayne Nordstrom, and Michael Shane Pepper. Pallbearers were Tommy Hendrix, Dale Hendrix, Glenn Hendrix, Larry Mitchell, Jackie Brown, and Eddie Dunn.
