To any ordained Minister or Justice of the Peace legally authorized to 
celebrate marriages in said Parish Greetings
You are hereby authorized to join celebrate in marriage according to Law Mr. W. 
E. Coats and Miss. Emily J. Lilley of Caldwell Parish there appearing no legal 
cause of impediment to the same. 
Given under my hand this 4th day of July A.D. 1864

By virtue of a license to me directed by the Clerk 12th Judicial District Court 
did on this 10th day of July 1864 unite in the bonds of Matrimony Mr. W. E. 
Coats and Miss. E. J. Lilley in presents of the witnesses who have hereunto 
attested this fact with me.

Additional Comments:
After the death of W.E. Coates, Emily J. Coates will marry Robert A. Grant 
September 1 1870, in Caldwell Parish.
W.E. Coates and Emily were never shown together on a census.
Emily is shown in the household of her Father Joseph A. Lilley of Caldwell 
Parish during the 1850, 1860 and 1870 U. S. Census.
Emily is Shown as Emily J. Coates in 1870 and includes children Charles F. 
Coates age 6 and Joseph W. Coates age 2.
W.E. Cotes died some time between 1868 and 1870.
