To the Honorable the Judge of the Twelfth Judicial District court of the State of Louisiana holding sessions in & for the parish of Caldwell- The petition of Mary J. Curry, resident of the Parish of Caldwell, State of Louisiana, with respect shews unto your honor, That she is the widow of Doctor M. Curry late, a resident of the said Parish of Caldwell, who died intestate on or about the 7th of August 1862 leaving a small estate, real & personal, held in community between the said Doctor M. Curry & and your petitioner, his surviving widow - That he also left two minor children, James Edward & William Franklin, issue of his marriage with your petitioner - That since the death of her husband, your petitioner has managed the property of the succession, in a prudent & economical manner, paid off the debts of the succession, & kept the effects of the estate together for the benefit of herself & children. That she has never yet been confirmed as natural tutrix to her said minor children, owing in part to the unsettled condition of the courts of the country - That no administration of the succession is necessary, as all the debts have been paid, & your petitioner as natural tutrix is fully competent to manage the estate for the best interests of the minors. --- Wherefore she prays to be duly confirmed as natural tutrix to the minor children James Edward and William Franklin Curry upon taking the oath of complying with the requisites of law, that an under-tutor also be appointed to said minors, that an order issue to the Recorder of the Parish to make an inventory & appraisement of the property of the succession of Doct.H.Curry & for general relief etc. Signed, Barry Crawford, Atty State of Louisiana, Parish of Caldwell: Be it remembered that I Thomas J. Hough, Parish Recorder, in and for said parish and State Duly Commissioned and sworn, in obedience to an order Issued from the 12th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Caldwell, bearing date 7th day of February A.D. 1866 - To me directed, to take and make an Inventory of all the property,, both rights and credits, real and personal composing the Estate of D.H. Curry, Deceased. And for that purpose I have proceeded in the Town of Columbia to the Court House and appointed E.T. Nethery, and W.J. Howell as appraisers, who being duly sworn to appraise said property according to Law, did make said appraisement which is as follows: to Wit == 1st - Two hundred acres of Land Appraises at--- $1,000 2nd - One horse appraised at 100 3rd - Three head of cattle 75 4th - Twenty-nine hogs 87 5th - One wagon 70 6th - One bed & bed stead 40 7th - One Lot - farming tools app at $25 8th - Twelve chairs 12 9th - One Shot-gun 15 10th- One Table 4 11th- One Lot ___ ____ 10 12th- One Looking glass 3 13th- Three Bales Cotton $300 Amounting in the aggregate to $1,681 In testimony whereof The Aforesaid parties have hereunto signed their names in presence of the undersigned competent witnesses, together with me, Thomas J.
