Report on the evacuees By NELL COLLIGAN Page 2, The Cameron Parish Pilot, Cameron, La., February 09, 2006 By NELL COLLIGAN NEWS OF THE DRURYS The column is turning out to be an efficient way to locate Cameron Parish Rita evacuees. We have news of the Drurys this week, called in by Barbara Lou LeBlanc’s daughter, Kim. I phoned the number Kim gave me and had a nice conversation with Esther Drury. She and her husband, Jeff, initially evacuated to her daughter’s home in Independence. They stayed with Aure Marie for three months, but now have a trailer on family property in Ponchatoula. Mrs. Drury said they miss Cameron and all their friends there. THE FERRY CREWS You may recall that Kim LeBlanc was the ferry captain for the Monkey Island Ferry. The crew members of that ferry are now working as deck hands on the main Cameron Ferry since the Monkey Island Ferry was destroyed in the storm. Kim bought a small trailer and is living in Cameron. It seems that she said Jimmy Doxey is living nearby in a trailer also. Thanks to people like Kim and Jimmy and the other folks who work on the ferry, residents and visitors are able to commute between Cameron and points west. Apparently, if you have a mobile trailer and have access to sewage, water and electricity, you can return to Cameron... There is no question that living in a small trailer in a hurricane torn town represents a hardship, but it enables these courageous, responsible employees to keep their jobs. I so admire them. ADENISE TROSCLAIR IN HEALTH CARE CENTER Roni and Joey Trosclair wrote this week with news of Adenise Trosclair. “Mrs. Bolo”, as she is known to everyone in Cameron, is in the Oak Park Health Care Center in Lake Charles. She sends word that she would love to have a visit or mail from her friends. Originally from Terrebonne Parish, Mrs. Bolo and her late husband, Roland Sr., owned Trosclair Canning Company on Davis Road in Cameron for many years. After Mr. Bolo passed away, Mrs. Bolo maintained the lifelong family friendship of Donald “Tubby” Pelegrin who was also from the Houma area. When the storm hit, she and Tubby evacuated to Oklahoma. They later returned to Lake Charles. Roni writes, “Uncle Tubby passed away on Dec. 21, 2005 after a short illness.” Roni and Joey Trosclair are at Iowa, La. LORETTA THERIOT’S FAMILY NEWS Loretta writes that following Hurricane Rita, she and her mother, Alva Jones, relocated to 216 Bertrand in Lafayette. You may have seen a picture of their Chenier Perdue home in The Cameron Pilot. It was almost totally destroyed. She has returned to the house only once since the hurricane. Loretta has also moved her business, Gulf Ocean Services, Offshore Geophysical Company, to Lafayette. They are presently doing pipeline inspection work in the gulf. She writes that she shares an office with Salah Dean Eldarragi at 223 Georgette Street. Luke’s children, Megan and Sara live with their mother on Denier Street. He and his wife live on N. Arlington, and his company, CPL Systems, is on Industrial Street. Please send news for the Column to: 302 Trailwood Lane; Lafayette, La. 70508. Phone: 337-988- 5395. nnadc67@aol.com
