Mrs. Landry died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in a local care center. She was a native of Mamou, and she lived in Cameron for 47 years. She was a nurse at the Cameron Medical Center for 33 years and at South Cameron Memorial Hospital for three years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include one daughter, Edna Doxey of Lake Charles; one brother, George Allen Manuel of Tyler, Texas; four sisters, Rose Fontenot and Allie Joyce Baker, both of Lumberton, Texas, Verna Scott of Beaumont, Texas, and Enes Dequent of Mississippi; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Lydia M. Lannin — 3/9/2002 Funeral services for Lydia Marie Lannin, 80, will be at 3 p.m. Monday, March 11, in Hixson Funeral Home. The Rev. Bryan King will officiate. Burial will be in Big Lake Cemetery in Big Lake. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today; 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary at 6 p.m.; and from 9 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Lannin died Friday, March 8, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a native of Galveston, Texas, and she lived most of her life in Big Lake. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Big Lake. Survivors include two sons, Clifford "Sonny" Lannin Jr. of Big Lake and Mark W. Lannin of Lake Charles; four daughters, Betty J. Maas of Merryville, Marie J. Fontenot of Lake Charles, Martha L. Sarver of Carlyss and Carol A. Fox of Bettendorf, Iowa; one brother, Fredrick Wannage of Big Lake; one sister, Martha W. Manuel of Lake Charles; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Edward B. LeBlanc — 6/24/2002 Edward B. LeBlanc, 80, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a native of Cameron and had lived in Lake Charles for 63 years. He worked at Firestone for 43 years. He was a security guard at Christian Baptist Church and Headstart. He was a member of Christian Baptist Church, where he was a 19-year member of the usher board and was a member of the board of trustees. Survivors include one son, Terrell LeBlanc of Lake Charles; three daughters, Georgianna Bilbo, Dorothy Ceasar Chavis and Florence Fontenot, all of Lake Charles; 14 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. today, June 24, in Christian Baptist Church. The Rev. Edward Alexander Jr. will officiate. Dismissal will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 p.m. today in the church. Robbie LeBlanc — 3/25/2002 Robbie Jean LeBlanc, 65, died Friday, March 22, 2002, in a Lake Charles hospital. She was a native of Houston and lived in Creole the past 51 years. She was a member of the NAACP. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, from Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church in Cameron. Monsignor Louis Melancon will officiate. Burial will be in LeBlanc Cemetery. Reley LeBleu — 2/22/2002 Funeral services for Reley "Maw Maw Bleu" LeBleu, 88, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in Hixson Funeral Home. The Revs. Anthony LeBleu and Dwight LeBleu will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Mrs. LeBleu died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in a local hospital. Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today. She was a native of Lacassine, and she lived much of her life Sweetlake and Lake Charles. She worked at the Sale Street Baptist Church day care for 20 years. Survivors include her husband, Woodrow W. LeBleu; three sons, Gerald Lee LeBleu of Houston and Anthony John and Dwight James LeBleu, both of Lake Charles; one daughter, Catherine Dale of Moss Bluff; one brother, Harold Cormier of Lake Charles; two sisters, Ruth Hebert of Abbeville and Audrey Marcantel of Lake Charles; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, the family said. Lora O. LeJeune — 6/26/2002 CAMERON — Lora O. LeJeune, 80, died Monday, June 24, 2002, in a Lake Charles hospital. She was a native of Welsh, and she had lived in Cameron for 26 years. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Joseph “Sam” LeJeune of Cameron; three sons, Lawrence Mallett, Billy Mallett and Ray Mallett, all of Cameron; eight daughters, Carol Bettis of Moss Bluff, Ruby Jordan of Sulphur, Nadine Doucet of Vidor, Texas, Loura Theriot of Baytown, Texas, and Sherry Crumb, Debbie LeJeune, Carla Mallett and Stephney Mallett, all of Cameron; four stepsons, Joseph Sammy LeJeune Jr. and Philip LeJeune, both of Cameron, Michael LeJeune of Creole and Gordon LeJeune of Elton; three stepdaughters, Debra Hanks and Phyllis Oglesby, both of Gueydan, and Darlene Tingler of Johnson Bayou; one brother, Lindsey O’Blanc of Oklahoma; one sister, Dora Bellard of Welsh; 35 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. Odelia Little — 3/25/2002 Mrs. Odelia Kibodeaux Little, 91, of Hackberry, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, in the Cameron Parish hospital. She was a native of Crowley and lived in Hackberry for most of her life. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, A.J. Little of New Iberia and Clarence Little of Toomey; two daughters, Dorothy L. Theriot of Cameron and Mary Pickett of Vinton; one sister, Olivia Delome of Orange, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, from St. Peter Catholic Church. The Rev. Roland Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Miller — 2/23/2002 GRAND CHENIER — Funeral services for Hilda Marie Miller, 66, will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 23, from St. Eugene Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph McGrath will officiate. Mrs. Miller died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, in a Lake Charles hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Grand Chenier. She was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church, and she was a member of the choir and the Ladies Altar Society. Survivors include one son, Leslie Miller of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; six daughters, Nancy Baccigalopi of Grand Chenier, Pauline Thibodeaux of Iowa, La., Peggy Ward of Hayes, Donna Miller of Hackberry, Tammy Roux of Cameron and Sally Cogan of Sulphur; two brothers, Freddie Swire of Ragley and Wilford Swire of Rayne; five sisters, Ruby Nunez of Grand Chenier, Lucy Faulk of Morgan City, Lucille Swire of Lake Arthur, Mary Ann Swire of Lawtell and Betty Ann Guidry of Gueydan; 24 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Hubert Miller — 7/21/2002 GRAND CHENIER — Hubert Miller, 77, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, in Grand Chenier. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Chenier. He was a member of VFW Post 10019, American Legion Post 364 and Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church. Survivors include one brother, Rudolph Miller of Palmetto, Ga., and two sisters, Veda Bult of Lake Charles and Bernice Clark of Grand Chenier. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, July 21, from St. Eugene Catholic Church. The Rev. Vincent Vadakedath will officiate. Richard Mills Jr. — 6/14/2002 CAMERON — Richard James Mills Jr., 53, died at 9:08 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002, in the Cameron hospital. Survivors include one son, Derek Mills of Colorado; one daughter, Shannon Shlagbaum of Lima, Ohio; one brother, Chris Mills of Florida; three sisters, Terri Carcelli of Las Vegas, Nancy Fullerton of Cincinnati and Liz Tatgenhorst of Columbia, S.C.; his companion, Sue Deshotels of Cameron; and three grandchildren. A private memorial service be held in South Carolina at a later date. Casimir W. Monceaux — 2/22/2002 LAKE ARTHUR — Funeral services for Casimir W. "Mann" Monceaux, 77, will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 22, in Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Maurice Martineau will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Andrus Cove Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. A rosary was said Thursday. Mr. Monceaux died at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a native of Cameron and a resident of Lake Arthur. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific on the island of New Caladonia. He was a life member of VFW Post 3244 and Lake Arthur American Legion Post 403, serving as past commander of both organizations. He was past District V inspector. Survivors include his wife, Marion D. Monceaux of Lake Arthur; one brother, Sidney Monceaux of Ragley; and one sister, Lillian Dugas of Lake Arthur. Eugene Moore — 5/16/2002 Eugene Moore, 58, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, in Cameron Parish. His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in Bargeman Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Creole. Henry R. Moore — 1/29/2002 Funeral services for Henry Robert Moore, 31, will be at 8 p.m. today, Jan. 29, in Macedonia Church of God in Christ. The Rev. Rodney Williams will officiate. Dismissal will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with burial in Perkins Cem-etery under the direction of James Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 p.m. in the church. Mr. Moore died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002. He was a native of the Creole-Cameron area, and he moved to Lake Charles 12 years ago. He worked for Omega Protein Inc. of Cameron. Bryan Morales — 2/5/2002 CREOLE — Funeral services for Bryan Morales, 15, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, from Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph McGrath will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is 8 a.m.-10 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., and from 8 a.m. Wednes-day. He died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, in the local hospital. He was an honor student at South Cameron High School. He was a class officer and a member of the varsity football team. He was a member of the Beta Club and Future Business Leaders of America. He earned the Key Club award and was an Eagle Scout. He was an altar boy and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include two brothers, Chris Morales of Grand Lake and Shaun Fawvor of Creole; one sister, Jenny Morales Broussard of Cameron; his parents, Ruben and Mirinda Morales of Creole; paternal grandmother, Calalina Castro of Lake Charles; and maternal grandmother, Marie Pennington of Lake Charles. Mrs. Stoner Moss — 8/1/2002 Mrs. Stoner (Winnie Hebert) Moss, 89, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a native of Sweetlake, and she lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Lake Charles High School. She was a bookkeeper for E&M Sporting Goods for years. She was one of the original Kress Girls. She was a member of Sale Street Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Ann Moss Bruney of Lake Charles; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Hebert of Cameron; and three sisters, Bessie Mackey of Winnie, Texas, Violet Mouton of Kinder and Genevieve Dade of Concord, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, in Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Eddie Simmons will officiate. Burial will be in Orange Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Friday. John W. Navarre — 2/3/2002 Funeral services for John Wilfred Navarre, 75, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in Community Christian Church. Mark Broussard and Leonard Ray Navarre will officiate. Burial will be in Black Bayou Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation is 2-10 p.m. today in the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Monday in the church. Mr. Navarre died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in a Houston hospital. He was a native of Big Lake and had lived in Lake Charles for the past 54 years. He was a powerhouse operator. He worked for Olin Chemical Co. for 20 years and PPG for 20 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and had served in World War II in the Okinawa and China theaters. He was a member of W.B. Willliamson Post 1 of the American Legion. He was elder emeritus of the First Church of Christ Community Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Gilbert of Lake Charles; one son, Leonard Ray Navarre of Houston; one daughter, Peggy Anne Navarre of San Antonio; one sister, Lavinia Broussard of Sulphur; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Johnny Newman — 7/23/2002 Johnny Newman, 36, died, Sunday, July 21, 2002 in a Lake Charles hospital. Johnny was born in Baton Rouge and was a longtime resident of Cameron and Calcasieu parishes. He was a graduate of St. Louis High School and attended McNeese State University. Johnny will probably be best remembered for his lifelong love of the outdoors, especially for his expertise as a duck and goose hunter. He was a professional waterfowl hunting guide at an early age. He was the owner-manager of Black Lake Lodge, a well-known hunting and fishing lodge just west of Hackberry, for about 12 years. He will also be remembered by his many hunting companions and guests as a top-notch cook, specializing in wild-game dishes. Prior to becoming the owner-manager of Black Lake Lodge, he was employed by the Raleigh Newman Law Firm as an investigator in Lake Charles. During his relatively short life, he was also employed by Star Concrete Pumpers, where he was active in both the Lake Charles and Lafayette markets. Survivors include his daughter, Hannah S. Newman of Lake Charles; two sons, Jonathan and Brent Newman, both of Carlyss; his mother, Myrna “Mickey” Reeves Newman of Lake Charles; his father and stepmother, Raleigh and Barbara Newman of Lake Charles; two brothers, Bobby Ray Wall of Lake Charles and Wade Anthony Wall of Broussard; one sister, Mary Ellen Montgomery of Lake Charles; and paternal grandmother, Eva Faulk of Lake Charles. Payne — 5/18/2002 CAMERON — Patricia Hebert Payne, 58, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, in a Lake Charles hospital. She was a native of Pascagoula, Miss., and she had lived in Cameron for 11 years. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, James C. Payne Sr. of Cameron; two sons, James C. Payne Jr. of Creole and Chris Payne of Moss Point, Miss.; five brothers, John Hebert of Lake Charles, Don Hebert of Scott, Keith Hebert and Cedric Hebert, both of Cameron, and Perry Enfinger of South Carolina; seven sisters, Drusilla Aubey and Nedia Trahan, both of Cameron, Nancy Wilson of Coden, Ala., Juanita DeSelms and Peggy Jimenez, both of Mobile, Ala., Linda Connell of Saraland, Ala., and Margaret Adamson of Daphne, Ala.; and four grandchildren. Ratcliff — 5/17/2002 LACASSINE — Effie Peshoff “Sis” Ratcliff, 74, died Wednes-day, May 15, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a native of Cameron, and she had lived in Lacassine for more than 20 years. She was a retired employee of the Cameron sheriff’s tax collection office. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Thelma Hachett Chapter of Cameron. She was a member of Murray Street Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Henry “Hank” Ratcliff of Lacassine; two sons, John Ratcliff of Welsh and the Rev. Gerald Ratcliff of Orange, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Rhonda) Steinmetz of Lafayette; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh. The Rev. Alan Weishampel will officiate. Burial will be in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today. James E. Reon — 2/14/2002 Funeral services for James Elmo Reon, 88, will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in Hixson Funeral Home. The Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. The body will be cremated. Visitation is from 1 p.m. Friday. Mr. Reon died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in Lake Charles. He was a native of Hackberry and had lived in Lake Charles for 30 years. He retired from the oil-field industry. He retired as an auto mechanic from Cagle Chevrolet. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Eunice Kebodeaux Reon of Lake Charles; two sons, Wilber Reon of Jennings and Irvy Reon of Sweetlake; two daughters, Ruby Arceneaux of Sweetlake and Glenda Reeves of Jennings; one sister, Odessa Cuvillier of Hackberry; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Josephine A. Roux — 9/13/2002 CAMERON — Josephine Aline Roux, 95, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in a Lake Charles hospital. She was a native of Oak Grove, and she had lived in Cameron for more than 60 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cameron and was the church secretary for more than 50 years. She was a dedicated Christian lady who enjoyed gardening. She was a seamstress. Survivors include a son, Daniel Roux Jr. of Lake Charles; one daughter, Jo Ann Roux of Cameron; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Roux Sr. Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, in First Baptist Church of Cameron. The Revs. Alton Hobnett and Wallace Primeaux will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Creole. Visitation is from 10 a.m. today in the church. Anna L. Roy — 7/16/2002 JENNINGS — Anna L. Roy, 51, died at 11:11 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, in the Jennings hospital. She was a native of Creole, and she had lived in the Lake Arthur-Jennings area. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Norman J. Roy of Lake Arthur; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Nicole Roy of Jennings; one daughter, Lela R. Guidry of Lake Arthur; two sisters, Charlotte Bonsall and Delores Boudreaux, both of Creole; and two grandchildren, Hunter Guidry and Zachary Kershaw. Her funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Wayne LeBleu officiated. Burial was in Andrus Cove Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home. A rosary was recited Sunday evening. Bessie H. Ruley — 3/24/2002 Bessie Hebert Ruley, 97, died at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a native of Cameron Parish and a graduate of Bell City High School. She lived in Texas and Florida before moving to Lake Charles in 1947. She served as post master for the U.S. Postal Service in Bell City for many years. She was an instructor at the Extended University program of the University of Arizona. She also worked at Sears in Lake Charles and served as the assistant dean of women at McNeese State University until her retirement. She won several pottery, crochet and painting competitions. Her crafts were exhibited in shows in Louisiana and Arizona. She was a longtime member of a Cooperative Extension Service home demonstration club and the Saint Ambrose Golden Agers Club of Tucson, Ariz. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and was a member of the Study Club. Survivors include one son, Gerald Elvis Ruley of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Bessie Jean Ruley Kearns of Tucson; one brother, Ralph Hebert of Bell City; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, from Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. The Rev. Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will be in DeRouen-Lorrain Cemetery in Hayes under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, with a scripture service and rosary at 6 p.m., and 8-9:30 Wednesday in the funeral home. Gordon E. Nunez — 4/26/2002 CREOLE — Gordon Edras Nunez, 71, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, in the Cameron hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Creole. He owned and operated G.E. Grocery for 20 years. He was a volunteer fire chief with the Creole Fire Department for many years. He was a cattleman. He was a member of the McNeese Cowboy Club. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Creole and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. She was a reporter for the Cameron Pilot for more than 30 years and was one of its first reporters. She owned and operated Stanley’s Grocery in Holly Beach with her husband, Walter Stanley. She retired to Carlyss after selling the store. She was a lifelong member of the altar societies of St. Theresa and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic churches. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister.
