A2 Hubert Babineaux Jr. BIG LAKE — Hubert "Chuck" Babineaux Jr., 43, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, in his residence. Mr. Babineaux was born in Charles and lived in Big Lake. He worked for Louisiana Pigment as a training instructor. He was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church and was active in faith renewals. He coached Little Dribblers Basketball and was an ASA softball coach. Chuck was an avid hunter and fisherman. Most of all, he was a loving son, husband, father, brother and uncle. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Babineaux Sr. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline "Lynn" Babineaux of Big Lake; mother, Jacqueline Jackson of Harrison, Ark.; one son, Hubert Chuck Babineaux of Big Lake; three daughters, Jacqueline "Jackie" Babineaux, Kimberlee "Kimmie" Babineaux and Katelyn Babineaux, all of Big Lake; two second daughters, Courtney Thomas and Lakeyn Thomas; three sisters, Stacey LeBleu of Harrison, Ark., Diane Daigle of Melbourne, Fla., and Cammie Thomas and her husband, Steve, of Harrison, Ark.; in- laws, Bobby Hebert of Big Lake and Mike and Kelly Hebert, Kevin and Becky Hebert and Jean and Tony Thomas, all of Grand Lake; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Sandra Hebert. Pallbearers will include Timmy Daigle Jr., Kevin Hebert, Joey Babineaux Sr., Mitchell Babineaux, Kevin Legnion and Mike Higginbotham. Honorary pallbearers will include Mike Hebert and Greg Devall Jr. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, in St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church of Big Lake. Monsignor Harry Greig will officiate. Burial will be in Big Lake Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation is from 2-10 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a rosary at 6 p.m., and 8 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday. BACKLUND, John C. LCAP 08/23/05 HACKBERRY — A funeral Mass for Mr. John C. Backlund, 46, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, from St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. The Rev. Roland Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in Hackberry Cemetery under the direction of Robison Funeral Home, 107 West Napoleon St., Sulphur. Visitation is 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today, with rosary at 7 p.m., and from 8 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Mr. Backlund passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, in DeQuincy. He was born in Ardmore, Okla., and was a longtime resident of Hackberry. He graduated with Hackberry High School’s Class of 1976 and attended Sowela Technical College. He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Harley Owners Group, The Cattleman’s Association and was active in community affairs, particularly in the support of United Way, Rodeo Club, Cameron Beach Cleanup yearly project and 4-H livestock projects. Mr. Backlund was an instrument electrical technician for Dynegy of Hackberry for 16 years. He loved to go on poker runs and attend rallies. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Genelle Francis Isdale Backlund . Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Mrs. Kathy Penny Backlund of Hackberry; one daughter, Miss Kayla Marie Backlund of Hackberry; one son, Mr. Jeb Edwin Backlund of Hackberry; father and stepmother, Benny Roy and Virginia Backlund of Leesville; three brothers, Mr. David Backlund and wife, Ginger, of Grand Lake, and Mr. Michael Backlund and wife, Evelyn, and Mr. Frank Backlund and wife, Joyce, all of Carlyss; five nieces; five nephews; and nine greatnephews. Mr. Barras passed away at 1:18 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, in Sulphur. He was a native of St. Martinville, former resident of Hackberry, and resident of Sulphur. He was an Army veteran and an Air Force veteran serving in World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of Sulphur United Pentecostal Church. Mr. Barras formerly worked as a driller for W.T. Burton and was self-employed with his sawmill. He was a loving husband, dad and pawpaw who was easy to please. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Blanche Barras; four brothers; five sisters; and one son, Ronnie Morgan. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Joyce Billiot Barras of Sulphur; five daughters, Ms. Darlene Morgan of New Orleans, Mrs. Lynette Soileau and husband Brad of Lake Charles, Mrs. Wadeolene Rose and husband Scott of Sulphur, Ms. Glenda Femia of New Orleans, and Ms. Jo Lynell Sinclair and Clay Sinclair of Lake Charles; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, "Bo." BERGERON, Shirley Mary LCAP 08/23/05 GIBSON — Shirley Mary Savoie Bergeron, 68, died at 6:48 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005. A native of Creole, Mrs. Bergeron was a resident of Gibson. She was a homemaker and a Christian. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, in Chauvin Funeral Home Inc., 5899 Hwy. 311, Houma. Visitation is from 11 a.m. Wednesday. Survivors include her husband, Alfred Bergeron Sr. of Gibson; mother, Mary Labouve Savoie of Lake Charles; one son, Anthony Bergeron and wife, Tammy, of Gibson; daughters, Angela Landry and husband, Jeffery, of Schriever, and Damien Savoie Daugird and husband, David, of New Orleans; stepsons, Cleus Bergeron and wife, Darlene, and Alfred Bergeron Jr. and wife, Kim, of Houma; stepdaughter, Cindy Bergeron of Houma; brother, Lynn Savoie and wife, Jeanette, of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Savoie. BROUSSARD, Noah C. LCAP 03/03/05 DRY CREEK — Noah C. "Bruce" Broussard, 85, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder. He was born in Sweetlake and resided in Lake Charles for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II, and he worked in the oilfield and construction industries before moving to Bundick Lake in 1982. He then became affectionally known as the "Tomato Man," because of the acres of tomatoes he and his wife raised and sold. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeRidder, and also attended services and actively supported St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Dry Creek for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the VFW. At the time of his death he was serving on the Board of Directors for the Beauregard Council on Aging. Known primarily as "Noah" in the Bundick Lake area, he was also known to old friends and family members as "Bruce" or "Cleve." Survivors include one daughter, Lynn Carlson of Alamogordo, N.M.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Bruce’s funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeRidder. The Rev. Danny Torres will officiate. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Friday, March 4, with rosary at 7 p.m. in Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Burial will be in Dry Creek Cemetery in Dry Creek. BROUSSARD, Thomas LCAP 01/15/05 Thomas E. Broussard, 60, of Grand Lake died Thursday, January 13, 2005 in his residence. Mr. Broussard was a native of Lake Charles and lived most of his life in the Grand Lake area. He was a graduate of South Cameron High School and McNeese State University. He was a teacher for Grand Lake High School for most of his teaching career and retired with the Cameron Parish School Board after 33 years of service. Aside from teaching, his passion was coaching the Grand Lake girl's basketball and track team. In the late 1990's Mr. Broussard attained his Private Investigator's License. After retirement he went on teach fatherhood classes at Phelp's Correctional Center in DeQuincy, LA. In his "spare" time he loved to play the drums and was a member of several bands throughout the years. Mr. Broussard was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Son's of the American Legion Post #1. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Leonard Broussard of Grand Lake; one son, Chad E. Broussard and wife Kathy of Austin, TX; one daughter, Mona B. Hilliard and husband Raymond of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Cody and Caitlyn Hilliard of Lake Charles and Kamden and Trever Broussard of Austin, TX; his father, Thomas R. Broussard of Grand Chenier, LA; one brother, Carl E. Broussard of Grand Chenier; uncles and aunts; Bud and Ada Broussard of Grand Chenier and John M. and Estelle Theriot of Creole, LA; one step son, Kevin Cockrell of Lake Charles; two step daughters, Amanda Latchlais of Grand Lake and Jennifer Azam of Sulphur; three step grandchildren, Travis, Christopher, and Megan Latcholais. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Sunday from Christ the King Catholic Church. Father Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation Saturday will be from 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation Sunday will be from 8:00 AM until 2:30 PM in the funeral home. BROUSSARD, William Glenn 8/27/05 SULPHUR — Funeral service for Mr. William Glenn Broussard, 55, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at Johnson Bayou Pentecostal Church, 160 Uriah Lane, Johnson Bayou. The Rev. Prentiss Burks will officiate. Burial will be in Head of the Hollow Cemetery in Johnson Bayou under the direction of Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur. Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today in the funeral home and from noon Sunday in the church. Mr. Broussard passed away Friday, Aug. 26, in Sulphur. He was a native of Johnson Bayou and a resident of Sulphur. He was a member of Pipefitter & Steamfitters Local 106 and was a welder. Survivors include two sons, Mr. Jeremy Broussard and wife, Jennifer, and Mr. Jason Broussard, all of Sulphur; one daughter, Ms. Melissa Broussard of Sulphur; parents, Melvin and Leanna Broussard of Johnson Bayou; three sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Carouthers of Johnson Bayou, Mrs. Kathy Mulreamny of Bossier City and Mrs. Theresa Buford of Lafayette; and four grandchildren.
