Mr. Cain was born on June 23, 1932 in Vinton, Louisiana to Abe and Ada Cain. He lived in this area most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an operator at Conoco and worked for the company for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Cain and one daughter, Linda Cain. Survivors include four sons: Larry D. Cain, Leward L. Cain, Lionel Cain and Lawrence Cain Jr. all of Hackberry; two brothers, Ira Cain of Westlake; Adam Cain of Sulphur; two sisters, Betty Thomason of Westlake; Dorothy Thomason of Boise; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. CARTER, Tavia Rutherford LCAP 03/22/05 Born: August 25, 1903 Died: March 20, 2005 Memorialized by: Hixson Creole Tavia Rutherford Carter, 101, passed away March 20, 2005 in Creole. Mrs. Tavia was born on August 25, 1903 in Creole and she lived there all of her life. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She was active in the Cameron Council on Aging and she was the Senior Queen of the Alligator Festival in 1992. She attended Southern University in Lafayette and had been a school teacher. Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter-in-law, Barbara Trahan of Creole; grandchildren, Carl Trahan and wife, Melissa of Creole, and Patrice Mouton of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Angela Trahan, Janice Trahan, Carl Trahan Jr., and Brad Mouton. Mrs. Conner was a lifelong resident of Creole where she worked fouteen years as a nurse for Dr. Carter. She and her husband owned and operated The Tarpon Freezo. She attended the Sacred Heart Catholic church from where she will be buried. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Camelia Bourriague and a brother, Steven Bourriague. CUVILLIER, Curtis Marcel LCAP 01/23/05 Born July 24, 1925 Died January 22, 2005 Curtis Marcel Cuvillier, 79, of Hackberry, LA died Saturday, January 22, 2005 in his residence. Mr. Cuvillier was born in Lake Charles and lived most of his life in Hackberry. He was a graduate of Hackberry High School. He went on to study dentistry and became a licensed lab tech while serving the United States Army. He was a World War II Veteran. Mr. Cuvillier worked forty-five years in the oil field and retired from Superior Oil after thirty years of service. He will be most remembered by his personality, sense of humor and ability to make those around him laugh. A2 CREOLE — She was born Jan. 25, 1947, in Wichita, Kan. God took her home Thursday, June 30, 2005, after a battle with lung cancer. She lived in Oklahoma and Texas as an adult. She spent the last 25 years being the wife of Ernest Daigle Sr. in Cameron. She and Ernest shared six wonderful children, Troy Daigle, Katrina Daigle, Sheila Belcher, Ernest Daigle Jr., Zachariah Shook and Mary-Shook Jones. They were blessed with eight grandchildren, Angela Themis, Roger Themis, Alex Themis, Dustin Belcher, Dylan Belcher, Chelsea Jones, Cailyn Jones and Emmerson Sivard-Shook; and one great-grandchild, Sebastien Vincent. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Please specify the donation is for small-cell cancer research. DARBONNE, Willard Ray LCAP 08/31/05 CHOUPIQUE — The funeral for Willard Ray Darbonne, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, from St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church of Hackberry. The Rev. Roland Vaughn will officiate. Burial with a firemans honor will be in New Hackberry Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Darbonne died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, in Christus St. Patrick Hospital after an illness. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., and from 8 a.m. Thursday in the St. Peter Catholic Church hall. Mr. Darbonne was born on July 30, 1935, in Hackberry to Harry and Ruby Darbonne. He lived in Choupique for 43 years. Mr. Darbonne was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church of Hackberry, where he was grand nnight with Knights of Columbus Council 11576. Mr. Darbonne was employed with Firestone as a pipefitter for 13 years. He then was employed as a foreman with Austin Industries and Livingston Engineers and retired from IMC as a pipefitter in 1996. Mr. Darbonne worked as a volunteer firefighter and fire chief until 1996 with the Carlyss Fire Department. He retired after 25 years of service. He worked as a security guard with Brimstone Securities, and he was in the reserves with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Darbonne served on the cemetery board for the Hackberry Cemetery Association, and he was the caretaker of Landry Cemetery in Choupique. He was a member of the Sulphur High School, Choupique and Hackberry rodeo clubs and of the Choupique Youth Rodeo. He was a No. 1 Sulphur High School Lady Tor soccer fan. Pallbearers will be provided by the surrounding fire departments. He was a native of Lake Charles and a longtime resident of Big Lake. Darrell attended Landry Memorial High School, where he was a member of the 1965 State Championship Football Team. He was a 1968 graduate of LaGrange Senior High School. Darrell was a former Calcasieu Parish sheriff’s deputy and was employed by Consolidated Aluminum and Lake Charles Carbon Co. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son and brother. His greatest joy was caring for his grandchildren. Darrell never met a stranger and was a good friend to all. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing. She lived most of her life in the Grand Lake community. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and was a very active member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Phoebe Demarets Guillory and Wilmer “Dean” Guillory of Lake Charles; daughter-inlaw, Jean Bush Demarets of Grand Lake; seven grandchildren, Pam Guillory Shelton and Paula Guillory, both of Houston, Jackie Guillory Barcellona of Flower Mound, Texas, Patricia Guillory of Palm Bay, Fla., and Peter Demarets, Carol Guillory Lawson and Matthew Demarets, all of Grand Lake; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Eva Faulk and Laura Faulk Trahan, both of Lake Charles; and one brother, Dr. Charles J. DEVALL, Claude Pierson LCAP 11/30/2005 July 15, 1954-Nov. 28, 2005 Claude Pierson Devall, 51, died at 8:47 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, in a Lake Charles hospital. Claude was born on July 15, 1954, in Sulphur and lived in Hackberry most of his life. He and his wife, Cele; daughter, Courtney; and grandson, Conner, had recently moved to Lake Charles. Claude had been a lifelong member of St. Peter the Apostle Church in Hackberry, and had recently become a parishioner of St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church in Lake Charles. Claude was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to travel and was always planning the next trip on the way home from some adventure. He lived life to the fullest and although he will be greatly missed by all of us his strength, honesty, love and wisdom will always be with us. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cele McLain Devall, son, T-Claude Devall, daughter, Courtney Devall, and one grandson, Conner Devall, all of Lake Charles. DYSON, Velma WINNFIELD — Velma Jane Marcantel Dyson, 74, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005 in a Winnfield nursing facility. She was born on Aug. 19, 1931, in Big Lake to Marion and Edna Demarets Marcantel. Velma lived in Longville for 42 years before moving to Winnfield almost five years ago. She enjoyed activities at her apartment complex and her hobby was playing bingo. Velma was a regular volunteer at a Winnfield nursing home. She enjoyed being around her friends. Velma was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
