LCAP 02/06/2006 GRAND LAKE — William P. “Bill” Eakin, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, in a local care center. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. EAKIN, William P. "Bill" Cameron Pilot 02/09/2006 William P. “Bill” Eakin, 85, of Grand Lake died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 in a Lake Charles center. He was born in Longstreet, and had served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in engineering. He moved to Cameron in 1950 where he was employed by Pure Oil Company, prior to founding Gulf Crews, Inc., an offshore boat rental company. He retired and moved to Galveston for a number of years before moving to Grand Lake. He is survived by his sons, Tommy Eakin and wife Lana and David Eakin, Sr. all of Grand Lake; daughter, Phyllis Doxey and husband Bobby of Cameron; one brother, Don Bridges of Richardson, Tex.; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 7, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Wayne Taylor officiated. Burial was in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery. ENGLISH, Gloria Duplechain LCAP 08/14/2006 Gloria Duplechain English, 82, of Lake Charles, passed away at midnight Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, in her residence. Mrs. English was born April 19, 1924, on Little Pecan Island in Cameron Parish, which was owned by her grandfather, Duncan Crain. She later moved to Lake Charles, where she lived most of her life. She worked as a nurse for Goldsmith Clinic for more than 25 years and also worked in the 1970s for Dr. Lee J. Monlezun Jr. and Dr. Syd Dyer. She was a member of St. Luke Simpson Methodist Church. Mrs. English was a member of the Calcasieu Chapter of American Association of Medical Assistants. She was awarded Medical Assistant of the Year in Calcasieu Parish and served as president from 1980-81. She was also a member of American Registry of Medical Assistants and was awarded outstanding member for 35 years. Mrs. English was also a member of the 12th Night Revelers. She was an avid gardener who loved raising flowers, especially roses. Mrs. English is survived by husband, H. Lee English of Lake Charles; son, Douglas Levingston and wife, Charlene “Coco,” of Lake Charles; daughter, Charlotte Levingston Metcalf and husband, Lee Mitchell, of Lake Charles; three stepchildren, Karen Matte and husband, Murell, of Lake Charles, Terri Posey of Houston, Texas, and Damon Doucet and wife, Cynthia, of Willemette, Ill.; one brother, Coy Russell Duplechain and wife, Lurline, of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren, Lori Lacy Levingston, Daniel Lee Metcalf, Mark and Greg Matte, and Jennifer, Raymond and Randall Posey; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lucille Crain Duplechain, and her brother, Kenneth Duplechain. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Karl Klaus and Henry Bowdon Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until the start of the services Tuesday. Photo included with article
