The Rev. Roland Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in Hackberry Cemetery under the direction of Robison Funeral Home, 107 West Napoleon St., Sulphur. The family will receive friends 3-9 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., and from 8 a.m. Wednesday in the church hall. Mr. Nunez passed away at 5:30 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2006, in Hackberry. He was a native of Grand Chenier and a longtime resident of Hackberry. The was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. J.B. retired as a gauger for Mobil Oil Co. after 34 years of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Attn: Building Fund, P.O. Box 372, Hackberry, LA 70645. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pervy and Ophelia Nunez; one brother, Elton Nunez; and one sister, Viola Broussard. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Betty Lou Dennis Nunez of Hackberry; three daughters, Mrs. Mona Murphy and husband Terry, Mrs. Cindy Duhon and husband Kent, and Mrs. Sharon Sanner and husband Dwayne, all of Hackberry; one brother, Mr. Carroll Nunez of Hackberry; four sisters, Mrs. Virginia Jinks and Mrs. Marie Little, both of Hackberry, Mrs. Lona Hendricks of New Roads and Mrs. Mable Heitz of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren, T.J. and Blake Murphy, Landon, Brennan and Erica Duhon, and Jay, Allyson, Lesley and Dean Sanner; and one great-grandson, Payton Delome. Photo with article NUNEZ, Joseph Numa American Press 2006 Dec 15 Joseph Numa Nunez, 81, of Big Lake died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, in Nashville, Tenn. Mr. Nunez was born in Cameron, La., and was raised in the Cameron and Creole area. He lived as a young adult in Bell City and was a graduate of Bell City High School. He served the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Nunez worked many years before retiring as a crew boat captain on the Trans Ocean “Rig Runner”. He was a member of St. Mary of the Lake and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Churches. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Nunez prided himself in his family heritage and his grandfather’s involvement in the founding of Cameron Parish. He leaves to cherish his memory, one brother, Wallace “Blackie” Nunez and wife, Rita of Bell City, La.; one stepson, Theo Rick Mier and wife, Vicky of Carencro, La.; three stepdaughters, Mickie Richard and husband, Ed of Baton Rouge; Michelle Mier of Baton Rouge and Jodi Landry Forsberg and husband, James of Clear Lake, Texas; nine step- grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; special cousin, Athea Mae Cox of Grand Lake; one nephew, Pat Nunez and wife Carol; two nieces, Kathy Bednarz and husband, Ray and Ann Stear and husband, Ronald; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Numa and Virginia Nunez Derouen; loving wife, Mary Stutes Nunez; brother, Bill Nunez; and two sisters, Leta Welsh and Emma Daigle. His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor Harry Greig will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3-10 p.m. Friday with a Scripture service and rosary that will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Photo included with article NUNEZ, Katherine “Kathy” LCAP 04/11/2006 Katherine “Kathy” Fontenot Nunez, 40, of Lake Charles, died at 1 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2006, in her residence. Kathy was raised in Lake Charles and lived in Grand Chenier for 15 years before moving back to Lake Charles six years ago. She was a housekeeper. Kathy loved the outdoors and enjoyed doing arts and crafts. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend to all. Survivors include her children, Jessica, Kendall and Joshua Nunez, all of Lake Charles; parents, Horace and Shirley Fontenot of Lake Charles; two sisters and their husbands, Krissy Ward and Blake of Lake Charles and Connie Este and Lonnie of Highland, Texas; four brothers and their wives, Kenny Fontenot and Donna of Richmond, Texas, Kevin Fontenot and Monica of Mermentau, Kent Fontenot of Lake Charles, and Kurt Fontenot and Melissa of Lacassine; the father of her children and his wife, Ken and Michelle Nunez of Grand Chenier; five nieces, Alisha Fontenot, Cassie Broussard, Lakeyn Ward, and Ashlyn and Christian Fontenot; seven nephews, George and Justin Perez, Avery Ward and Brian, Dustin, Clayton and Kade Fontenot; and special friend, Danny Boutte of Kaplan and his daughter, April Bourque, and Keith and their children, Lexi and Gabe, and his son, Little Danny Boutte. NUNEZ, Tassie Edna LCAP 02/04/06 Tassie Edna Nunez, 93, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2006, in a local care center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Creole. She was a descendant of the first settlement on Chenier Perdue. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Altar Society. She was a retired cook at Crane Bro. Hunting Club in Little Chenier. Survivors include two nephews, Winston Theriot and Darrell East; and three nieces, Virgie Nunez, Ouida Boudreaux and Leola Theriot. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emare and Arisse Theriot; husband, Avery Nunez; one brother, Whitney Theriot; and one sister, Ena East. Her funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, from St. Eugene Catholic Church. Father Vincent Vadakkedath will officiate. Burial will be in Chenier Perdue Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation is 8 a.m.-9 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m., and from 8 a.m. Sunday.
