RANKINS, Rev. Archie Jr. LCAP 07/28/2006 The Rev. Archie Rankins Jr., was called home on Saturday, July 22, 2006, in a Lafayette Hospital. He was a native of Cameron. He was a member of Refuge Temple Ministries in Lake Charles where he was involved in prison ministry and halfway house ministry. He was also a minister at St. Patrick Hospital and Martin Deporres. He was employeed by Turner Industries. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife, Mrs. Frankie M. Cameron Pilot 02/02/2006 Funeral services for Mr. Calvin L. P. Reed, 70, were held Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Robison Funeral Home Chapel in Sulphur. The Rev. Jonathan Alvear officiated. Graveside service was held Wednesday at Reed Cemetery in Basile. Mr. Reed died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, in Sulphur. He was a native of Basile and longtime resident of Sulphur. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired as an electrician from Dynmedermott after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of the Pentecostal Faith. He was preceded in death by his son, Corbett Edward Reed. She was a native of Big Lake and a resident of Sulphur. She was a homemaker, and she loved her family and dogs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Charles Reynolds. Survivors include two sons, Mr. John Reynolds of Lake Charles and Mr. Jimmy Reynolds and wife Brenda of Sulphur; three daughters, Mrs. Wavelynn Jensen and husband Randy of Arlington, Texas, Mrs. Jeannie Thibodeaux and husband Gilbert of Kinder, and Mrs. Donnie Presutti and husband Richard of Sulphur; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. RICHARD, Glenn Joseph LCAP Oct 15/2006 GRAND CHENIER — Glenn Joseph Richard, 59, died at 9:55 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, in a local hospital. He was born in Lake Charles and was a life resident of Grand Chenier. He was a graduate of South Cameron High School. He served the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked 16 years as a mechanic for Tenneco Oil Co. before retiring. He then worked five years as a deputy for Cameron Parish before he found his true passion, truck driving. He was a selfemployed truck driver for many years. He was a Boy Scout leader for five years. He was also a lifetime VFW member and past commander of American Legion Post 364. He was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church. He will be remembered most as a joker, as he was always kidding around. He will be greatly missed in the lives of many people as he met many friends on the road, “driving.” He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Michael Richard of Laurel, Miss.; two daughters, Michelle Mhire of Laurel and Madison Richard of Forked Island; one grandson, Christopher Mhire of Laurel; one brother, Edmond Richard and wife, Louella, of Lake Arthur; one sister, Elizabeth Ball and husband, David, of Kaplan; one aunt, Peggy Matthew of Kaplan; one godchild, Amanda Ball of Baltimore; a dear friend, Sandra Richard of Laurel; and his precious dachshund, Mimi. Richard, 98, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, in a Lake Charles care center. She was a native of Little Chenier. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and The Ladies Auxiliary. She loved gardening and cooking and worked with her husband trapping fur. Survivors include her son, LeRoy Richard of Iowa; one brother, Clayton Trahan of Little Chenier; three grandchildren, Staffus, Stephanie and Staffon; seven greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Richard was born on March 6, 1914, in Creole, where he lived until 1957. He served his country in the Army during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed with Crane Brothers for 34 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, VFW Post 2130 and the Cajun French Music Association. He enjoyed dancing and working in his yard. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Thelma Crochet Richard of Lake Charles; three sons, Gerald Richard and wife Norma of Grand Lake, Robert Richard and wife Linda of Lake Charles and Leonard Richard and wife Patricia of Big Pasture; daughter, Sherrie Broussard and husband Larry of Big Pasture; sister, Ena Dronet of Lake Charles; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was a native of Evangeline and had lived in Creole until 1957, before moving to the Grand Lake-Sweet Lake area. She was a volunteer at Christus St. Patrick hospital for many years. She enjoyed dancing and working in the yard. She was a member of the Cajun French Music Association, VFW Post 2130, the Ladies Altar Society and Christ the King Catholic Church. She is survived by three sons, Gerald Richard and wife Norma of Grand Lake, Robert Richard and wife Linda of Lake Charles and Leonard Richard and wife Patricia of Big Pasture; daughter, Sherrie Broussard and husband Larry of Big Pasture; two brothers, J.D. Crochet of Pasadena, Texas, and Leroy Crochet of Lake Charles; two sisters, Ethel Thibodeaux and Rena Thibodeaux of Lake Charles; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. American Press:2006 Nov 18 “Real joy comes not from riches or praise, but from doing worthwhile things out of love.’’ Those words of Roberta Eagleson Rogers, 90, who died at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, in a local hospital, were not only words she said, but words she lived by. Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Rogers. She was a native of Grand Chenier and a 70-year resident of Cameron, before moving to Moss Bluff after Hurricane Rita. She took great pride in her community and worked toward its betterment through civic development and community service. She was a founding officer and charter member of the Home Demonstration Club in 1936, a founding member and board of directors member of the Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival, and a founding member of the Cameron Parish Historical Society. She volunteered for the Salvation Army and Red Cross after Hurricane Audrey, as well as volunteering her time with the Grey Ladies at the South Cameron Memorial Hospital. Her love of history and community involvement is evidenced in more than 50 years of membership and held office positions in Order of the Eastern Star Thelma Hackett Chapter 225, as well as her involvement and membership in Robert E. Lee Chapter 305 of the UDC. Mrs. Rogers also served her community as a businesswoman, having been a founding owner and officer of Cameron Construction Co. in 1951. She also received the Doxey-Vincent VFW Citizenship Award in 1966 and the Cameron Parish Citizenship Award in 1968. Mrs. Rogers was a faithful and loving Christian, seeing good in everyone. She was a member of Wakefield Memorial Methodist Church of Cameron, where she served as historian and treasurer for more than 40 years. In her church activities, she was involved in the vacation Bible school, played the piano, sang in the choir, and was a soloist. She is quoted as saying, ‘‘No one can write his religious life with a pen or pencil; it is written only in actions, and its seal is our character, not our orthodox.’’ Mrs. Rogers, until the time of her death, was contributing to the rebuilding of her church, which was destroyed by Hurricane Rita. With this in mind, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Roberta Rogers Memorial Fund, c/o Wakefield Memorial Methodist Church, 324 Big Lake St., Lake Charles, LA 70607. Survivors include her daughter, Norma Jean Blake and husband Joseph Braxton Blake Jr. of Moss Bluff; two granddaughters, Charla Jo Blake of Dallas and Roberta Blake Pinch and husband W.J. ‘‘Billy’’ Pinch of Welsh; and one great granddaughter, Whitnie Victoria Pinch of Welsh. She was born Lorena Roberta Wilhite to Aline Theriot Wilhite and James Guy Wilhite at Chenier Perdue, La. She was a resident of Grand Chenier most of her life. A devoted member of St. Eugene Catholic Church where she worked many years as a cook and housekeeper. She was a member of the Alter Society and an Eucharistic minister. She also was a recipient of the Devoted Service Medal from the diocese of Lake Charles. She served as a past board member of the Council on Aging. Bertha was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted her life to loving and caring for her family. She loved cooking and was always serving a meal to anyone who came to visit. She is survived by her son, James Roberts and wife, Jannery of Grand Chenier; her daughter, Mary and husband, Hayes “Pete” Picou Jr., of Lake Charles; two sisters, Mable East of Lake Charles, Alva Neely of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Trey and Adrienne Picou, Michelle Richard, Nicole Smith; and godchild Danny Roberts; and five great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clayton Roberts and Henry Roy and a brother, James Douglas Wilhite.
