Hackett Sr., 92, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in Hixson Funeral Home. The Revs. Steven Spurlock and Henry Bowdon will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m.; and from 8 a.m. Friday. Mr. Hackett died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1995, in a local care center. A native of Cameron Parish, he was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and earned a bachelor's degree from USL and a master's degree from LSU. He began his teaching career at Lowery School in 1922 and served as an educator in Cameron Parish for 44 years, including 19 years as principal of Grand Lake High School and 16 years as Cameron Parish School Superintendent. Mr. Hackett was active with the American Red Cross during Hurricane Audrey and was instrumental in the rebuilding of schools in lower Cameron Parish following the disaster. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 165, a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Ruth Chapter 16 OES, a charter member of Habibi Temple, and a member of the $100 Million Crippled Children's Shrine Hospital Club, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and First United Methodist Church. Survivors are one son, U.E. ''Sonny'' Hackett Jr. of Lake Charles; one brother, N.B. ''Red'' Hackett of Denham Springs; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Youth Scholarship Fund of Ruth Chapter 16, OES, the family said.
