Doxey, pioneer citizen of Grand Chenier, were held at her home Monday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Martin Herbert and Rev. B. F. Roberts officiating. She was born in Lauderdale County Miss., in 1862. Her father, the late Colonel E. A. Durr, owned a large amount of land, a large tanning yard, and several hundred slaves. During the Reconstruction Period, he gave the property to the slaves and moved to Indian Bayou and later to Grand Chenier. With him went the Harper McCall, Roger, Gordon and Doxey families, all of them settled in Grand Chenier. Mrs. Doxey and her late husband, Andrew Doxey, were the parents of 13 children. The seven survivors are Mrs. E. J. Pleasant, Beaumont; Mrs. Jack Perkins, Lake Charles; Mrs. E. H. Peveto, Orange; J. W. Doxey, R. C. Doxey, R. M. Doxey, and James U. Doxey, all of Cameron Parish.
