Visitation is 3-10 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6 p.m., and from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Mrs. Abshire died at 5:18 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in her residence. She was a native of Indian Bayou and had lived in Lake Charles for 47 years before moving to Grand Lake six years ago. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church and a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church Catholic Daughters. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Kenny Abshire of Hayes, Va., Terry Abshire of Grand Lake, Troy Abshire of Lewisville, Texas and Scott Abshire of Humble, Texas; three daughters, Sandy Mire of Hackberry, Jo Hebert of Grand Lake and Mitsi Taylor of Cameron; one brother, Percy ''Pepe'' LaPointe of Lake Charles; one stepbrother, Allen Broussard of Lake Arthur; three stepsisters, Malva Dugas of Jennings, Willamae Duhon of Creole and Marlene Perkins of Lake Arthur; her stepfather, George Broussard of Lake Arthur; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. LCAP 2/25/2000 FLORIEN - Graveside memorial services for Leon Ethan Allen, 39, of 1604 Shaw St. will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in Allen Cemetery under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel of Lake Charles. Mr. Allen died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in the Cameron hospital. A native of Pineville, he had lived in Cameron for a number of years before moving to Lake Charles. He was a fisherman and worked for Zapata fishing company for a number of years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maranda August Allen of Lake Charles; one daughter, Jacqueline L. August of Lake Charles; three sons, Jessie Nix, Brandale Nix and DeVaughn August, all of Plaisance; one sister, Patricia Ann Landry of Pineville; and two brothers, Jerry O. Landry and Gary O. Landry. BABINEAUX, Hubert Sr. LCAP 8/17/2000 Funeral services for Hubert Babineaux Sr., 64, of Big Pasture, will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, from St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church. The Rev. John Perrio will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Lake Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Visitation is 11 a.m.-10 p.m. today, with a rosary at 6 p.m. and a worship service at 7 p.m. Mr. Babineaux died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in his residence. He was a native of Big Lake. He was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church. He was a Wildlife and Fisheries agent from 1974 to 1981 and worked for the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office 1981-1985. He was the state Wildlife Agent of the Year in 1978 and won the Safari International Award in 1979. He served in the National Guard. He worked as a carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Babineaux of Lake Charles; one son, Hubert "Chuck" Babineaux Jr. of Lake Charles; three daughters, Stacey Melissa LeBleu and Cammie Thomas, both of Harrison, Ark., and Diane Daigle of Lake Charles; two brothers, John Alvin Babineaux and Solomon Babineaux, both of Lake Charles; six sisters, Natali Bunch of Westlake, Elise LeDoux of Ragley and Della Box, Vella Stacey, Ann Brewer and Yvonne Key, all of Lake Charles; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Ernest Bargeman — 12/10/2000 Funeral services for Ernest Bargeman, 78, of 203 South Lyons St. will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, in the Christian Baptist Church. The Rev. Edward Alexander Jr. will officiate. Dismissal will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday with burial in Bargeman Memorial Cemetery in Cameron under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel. Visitation is from 5 p.m. Monday in the church. Mr. Bargeman died at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in a local hospital. A native of Cameron, he had lived in Lake Charles most of his life. He was a longtime member of the Christian Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a layman. He was a board member for the Calcasieu Council on Aging. He was also a member of the Mayfield-Taylor-McLain American Legion Post 551. He was a Petitjean retiree. He was an Army veteran. He was a self-contractor with the Mathilda Gray Stream Estate and the First National Bank. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Roxianna Simom Bargeman; two daughters, Peggy Ann Houston Sinclair of Crowley and Jurwana Bargeman of Lake Charles; three sons, Micheal Houston Sr., Joseph Wayne Bargeman and Gary Bargeman, all of Lake Charles; one sister, Mary Lee Bartie Baul of Lake Charles; two brothers, Raymond Bartie and Leroy Bartie Sr., both of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was a native of Cameron and had lived in Starks since 1940. She was a retired custodian at Starks High School, where she had worked since 1963. Survivors include two daughters, Judine Douget and Valerie Heyd, both of Starks; one brother, Erving Stanley of Starks; two sisters, Nancy Berwick of Beaumont, Texas, and Peggy McCullough of Merryville; her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Hobby (Mathilda) Stanley of Starks; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. BENOIT, John P. - 11/2/2000 CAMERON - Funeral services for John Paul Benoit, 59, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, from Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. The Rev. Al Volpe will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Creole. Visitation is 2-10 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m.Mr. Benoit died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in a local hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Cameron. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He was employed at Omega Protein as an oil room operator.Survivors include his wife, Carmen Benoit of Cameron; one son, George Benoit of Cameron; one brother, John W. Benoit of Cameron; one sister, MaryAnn Trahan of Johnson Bayou; and one grandchild. BERNARD,M.J., Monsignor LCAP 9/6/2000 Creole -- Funeral services for Monsignor M.J. Bernard, 73, will be at 10 AM Friday, September 8, from Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. The Rev. Jude Speyrer will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home and Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation is 3-9 PM today in the church and 7 AM-9 PM Thursday, with a rosary at 7 PM. Monsignor Bernard died Monday, September 4, 2000, Lake Charles hospital. He was a native of Lafayette, where he was educated at Mount Carmel Cathedral High School and DeLaSalle Normal. His ecclesiastical studies were done at St. Joseph's Seminary in St. Benedict and at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. He was ordained as a priest on May 10, 1952, in St. John Cathedral in Lafayette, and his first assignment was as assistant pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. During his 1952 - 1956 tenure at Immaculate Conception, he served as executive director of Lake Charles Catholic Youth organization, chaplain of the Newman Club McNeese State University and Lake Charles deanery director of vocations. He was an advocate for the Lafayette Diocese Tribunal 1955 to 1974. In May 1956, he was named administrator of St. Raphael Church in Iowa. In June, he was named assistant pastor to St. Margaret Church in Lake Charles and chaplain of Catholic Students at McNeese. On Oct. 1, 1957, he became the first resident chaplain of the Catholic Student center of our Lady of Good Council Church at McNeese, serve until May 1970. From 1960 - 1962, he was the chaplain at the Lake Charles Charity Hospital while serving at as moderator for Pre-Cana Conferences in the Lake Charles Deanery and as regional Newman chaplain in the Lafayette - Alexandria area. On May 16, 1966 he was named as papal chamberlain with title of monsignor. He served as administrator to St. Mary of the Lake Church in Big Lake in 1967, and was named the state chaplain for the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in 1970. He became pastor of St. Bernard Church in Breaux Bridge in 1970, and was appointed pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Creole in 1972. He served there for 25 years and three months until his retirement of June 30, 1997. He had been named prelate of honor to Pope Paul VI on Aug. 6, 1970. He served as pro-syndodal judge of the Lafayette Matrimonial Tribune from 1974 to 1980. From September 1982 to March 1983, he studied at the North American, College in Rome. In 1984, he served as administrator to St. Eugene hurch in, Grand Chenier. He served as chairman of the diocese of Lake Charles Clergy Welfare Committee and was a member of the Priest's Senate and a diocesan consultor for three years. In October 1987, he was invested as Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. BILLINGS, William C. LCAP 6/21/2000 CAMERON - Memorial services for William Cooper Billings, 59, at 2 p.m. today, June 21, in United Wakefield Methodist Church. The body was donated. Mr. Billings died at 6:34 a.m. Sunday, June 18, 2000, in a Lake Charles hospital. Survivors include four daughters, Scarlette Baker of Baton Rouge, Leticia Gary of Lafayette, Vanessa Billings of Baltimore, Md. and Chamaine Gallet of Lafayette; two sons, Aaron Billings of Lafayette and Timothy Billings of Lafayette; two sisters, Virginia Dupont of Cameron and Marilyn Hamaker of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three brothers, Orson Billings and Jason Billings, both of Cameron and Robert McPherson of Grand Chenier; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Walter L. Bonsall Sr. — 12/2/2000 SULPHUR — Funeral services for Walter Lloyd Bonsall Sr., 73, will be at 10:30 a.m. today, Dec. 2, from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Vincent Sedita will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 8:30 a.m. in the funeral home. A rosary was recited Friday evening. Mr. Bonsall died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in a Houston hospital. He was born in Cameron and grew up in Hackberry. He moved to Sulphur in 1949. He served in the Navy in World War II. He was a chemical engineer for 35 years and retired in 1983. He was a charter member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Annie Lou Sonnier Bonsall of Sulphur; three sons, Walter L. Bonsall Jr. and Thomas W. Bonsall, both of Sulphur, and John A. Bonsall of Mandeville; one daughter, Gail Bonsall Coody of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston or to the Leukemia Foundation, the family said. BOUDREAUX, Robby L. LCAP 8/24/2000 HACKBERRY - Funeral services for Robby L. Boudreaux will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, in the Hackberry Community Center. Visitation is 3-10 p.m. today in the center, with a rosary, and from 8 a.m. Friday. Arrangements are by Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur. Mr. Boudreaux died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, in the Sulphur hospital. He was a native of Vinton and had lived in Hackberry since 1973. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1967 and serving in Vietnam in the Aviation Brigade as a member of the Golden Hawks. He was co-owner of Hackberry Cajun Guide Service. Survivors include his wife, Betty Boudreaux of Hackberry; three sons, Darrell Guidry and James Boudreaux and Brad Boudreaux, all of Hackberry; one brother, Michael Boudreaux of Hackberry; four sisters, Linda Comeaux and Debra Berwick, both of Hackberry, Melva Guillory of Basile and Stephanie Boudreaux of Vinton; his stepmother, Wilma Boudreaux of Vinton; and four grandchildren. Mrs. Bourg died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, in Cameron. She was a native of Cameron. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Benny Bourg; two sons, Chris Bourg of Cameron and Danny Bourg of Port O'Connor, Texas; one brother, Sanders Bertrand Jr. of Sulphur; her mother, Edna Daigle Bertrand of Sulphur; and six grandchildren. Vistation in the funeral home is 4-10pm today; 8am-10pm Wednesday, with a rosary at 7pm; and 8-9:15am Thursday. Mr. Breaux died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in his residence. He was a native of Lake Charles and had lived in Grand Lake for 20 years. He was a graduate of LaGrange High School. He was a Borden route salesman for more than 10 years. He was a volunteer fireman with the Grand Lake- Sweetlake Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church and was a lector and a member of the choir. He was a church youth group leader and was active in youth athletics. Survivors include one daughter, Tiffany Laine Breaux of Grand Lake; four brothers, Darold Breaux of Philadelphia, Miss., Glen Breaux of Traverse City, Mich.., and Brian Breaux and Gerald Breaux both of Lake Charles; two sisters, Patricia Gachassin and Theresa Delcambre, both of New Iberia; two stepbrothers, Roger Henry and Robert Henry, both of Lake Charles; three stepsisters, Lucille Gorham of Moss Bluff, Jane Viahogeorge of Lake Charles and Mary Cranford of LaPorte, Texas; and his father and step-mother, Oford and Eloise Lucille Breaux of Lake Charles. Mr. Broussard died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in a Lake Charles hospital. He retired as a pipefitter from Citcon after 22 years of service. He belonged to the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 106 for 52 years. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, Donald "Bubbie" Broussard and Lennie Lynn Broussard, both of Hackberry; one daughter, Faye Vincent of Hackberry; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Mr. Broussard died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, in a local hospital. He was a native of Hackberry and had been a resident of Lake Charles. He was a driver for Turner Industries and was a member of Teamsters Local 969. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, Robert C. Broussard and Keith P. Broussard, both of Lake Charles; two daughters, Carol Blum of Pennville, N.J., and Sandra Baglio of Lake Charles; one brother, Henry Broussard of Lake Charles; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in a Beaumont, Texas, hospital. She lived most of her life in Cameron and had lived in Beaumont for two years. She was a member of the Bargeman Memorial Church of God in Christ. Survivors include one son, Albert Jerry Brazle of Beaumont; her companion, Richard Brown of Houma; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. BURCH, Raymond - 11/12/2000 STARKS - Funeral services for Raymond Burch, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, in Lunita Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation is 8 a.m.-10 p.m. today in the church and from 8 a.m. Monday. Mr. Burch died at 2:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in a Sulphur hospital. He was a native of Orange, Texas. He lived in Hackberry for 40 years before moving to Starks 30 years ago. He was a member of Lunita Pentecostal Church. Survivors include his wife, Inez Stains Burch of Starks; three sons, Raymond L. Burch Jr. of Sherwood, Ark., John Darrel Burch of DeQuincy and Brian Keith Burch of Starks; three daughters, Senith Ann Hyatt and Janice Hyatt, both of Singer, and Melba L. Mrs. Clayton died at 10:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, in her daughter's residence. She was a native of Creole and had lived in Hackberry for the past 35 years. She was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include two sons, Michael Clayton of New Orleans and A.J. Clayton of Hackberry; one daughter, Mary Dugas of Sulphur; three brothers, Curtis Nunez and Perry Nunez, both of Creole and Preston Nunez of Sulphur; six sisters, Irma Granger of Sweetlake, Ina Armentor of Dry Creek, Shirley Mhire of Grand Chenier, Peggy Simon of Hackberry, Barbara Nunez and Martha Vincent, both of Creole; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. CLEMENT, Albert LCAP 7/11/2000 ARLINGTON, Va. - Graveside services for Albert Clement 73, will be Tuesday, July 18, in Arlington National Cemetery with military rites. Funeral services were held at a previous date under the direction of East Lawn Rancho Cordova Mortuary of Sacramento, Calif. Mr. Clement died Tuesday, June 20, 2000. He was a native of Creole. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the Air Force after 30 years of service. He received the Bronze Star. Survivors include his wife, Antonia S. Clement; one daughter, Shirley C. Sax of Connecticut; one brother, Alcide Clement; and one sister, Marie L. Gaspard. CLEMENT, Clarence 11/29/2000 HACKBERRY - Graveside services for Clarence Clement, 92, were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, in Hackberry Cemetery. The Rev. Butch Martin officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home of Groves, Texas. Mr. Clement died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in a Port Arthur, Texas, hospital.
