REV. MILLARD THOMPSON DOUGHTY

  Rev. Millard Thompson Doughty was born on September 4th, 1887, to Doctor
Lewis Doughty and Mary Lou Miles.  The Doughty family was one of the pioneer
families of Catahoula Parish.  On February 19, 1911, at the age of 23 he
married Gussie May Wright at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. G.W. Wright.  The
Rev. R. B. Roberts, a Baptist Minister, performed the ceremony. Thompson and
Gussie Doughty raised seven children at their home about two miles west of
Manifest, La. Their children included Ruby Gladys Doughty (1914), Millard
Truett Doughty (1916), Joseph Eldon Doughty (1919), Mary Mae Doughty (1921),
Fannie Doris Doughty (1925), Herbert Hoover Doughty (1928) and Ethlyn Louise
Doughty (1930). Bro. Doughty was ordained a Southern Baptist Minister in May
of 1921.  For 32 years he was an active pastor in the east central section
of Louisiana.  The following churches were blest by his pastoral ministry:
Old Catahoula, Linsecum, Lone Star, Beech Creek, Fellowship, Parhams,
Wallace Ridge, Lake Lilly, Oak Grove at Rineheart, Pisgah at Manifest,
Aimwell, Spring Ridge and Kelly.  In some of these churches he served as
pastor on more than one occasion. To the modern day preacher this would seem
to be a long list of churches, but it is to be remembered that when Bro.
Doughty began his ministry there were no full time churches and preachers
were few in number.  It was necessary that one pastor serve several churches
at the same time.  Little do most of us realize today how man privations the
minister of the gospel experienced in those days that are gone forever.
Bro. Doughty, like so many other preachers of his day, often times rode
horseback through the woods where there were no roads in order to preach to
these churches. He helped build, literally from the ground up, Oak Grove
Baptist Church at Rineheart,  Aimwell Baptist Church, and Pisgah Baptist
Church at Manifest. Rev. Millard Thompson Doughty was a student of the Word.
Without the benefit of formal education, he schooled himself in the study of
the Bible.  The doctrines of the faith were as familiar to him as to those
who spent years in preparation and study.   He also kept abreast of the time
and was a loyal supporter of Southern Baptist work. Millard Thompson Doughty
passed form this life and went to be with our Lord on November 8, 1954 at
the age of 67 years.  He was remembered as a faithful servant of our Lord
Jesus Christ. He is buried by his wife, Gussie May Wright Doughty in the
Heard Cemetery at Manifest.
