All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Samuel Barton Yeager, planter, Morville, La., is a native of Tennessee, as were also his parents, John and Sarah (McClesky) Yeager. The father was a successful farmer and died in 1835, when his son, Samuel, was but little over a year old. Their family consisted of eight children-five sons and three daughters-who are named in the order of their births as follows: Elijah, Angeline, James, Caroline, William (now residing near Natchez, Miss.), Samuel Barton (subject) and John and Sarah, (twins). Samuel Barton Yeager was born in Lincoln county in 1834, grew to manhood there, and equipped with a fair education secured at Fayetteville, went with his mother to Jacksonport, Ark., in 1852, where he remained for five years, conducting his mother's plantations. In 1857 he returned with his mother to Tennessee, where she wished to make her home, saw her comfortably settled, and then went to Tensas parish, La. The mother died in Tennessee in July, 1874. After going to Louisiana, Mr. Yeager hired out to Kibby & Shields for the year 1858 as overseer. In 1859 he west to Concordia parish and engaged as an overseer for John Holmes, on Brushy bayou. From there he went to Catahoula parish and conducted business for Mrs. Louisa Gilbert up to 1862. During that year he enlisted in Col.
