Hendry. Petition for the collection of the indebtedness owed the estate dated 23 Nov 1839. Ira E. Griffin, Administer of the Estate of Thomas Bryan, deceased cited Arnaud's Estate owed Bryan's Estate money. He also showed that Arnaud died in Catahoula Parish, La. in October 1839. There is a deed in this packet dated 12 Mar 1839 by Arnaud to Peter Denisse (sic), selling an improvement on Bushley Creek, also 40-50 head of hogs and 10 or 12 head of cattle. Being the same land purchased by Arnaud from Samuel Masters, it being U.S. or Public land. Purchasers at the Estate Sale held 28 Dec 1839 were: Rezin Criswell, Hosea Markam, David Brown (bought a Bowie Knife for $5.75). At another sale held 18 Jan 1840 the purchasers were: Catlett Tiffee, John Tiffee, Ethel Boyt, Jesse Pearce, Andrew Mock, R. D. Piety, H. Markham (purchased the lot and house in Harrisonburg), Edward Doty, Joel Keenan, Moses Wiggins (bought a pistol for the same price as the Bowie Knife), C. Spores (sic), John Dosher, A. D. Ratcliff, Lucius W. Elam, John W. Stone, John Cornan. These sales yielded $18.75 and $483.87 1/2. Petition made for collection of debts owed by Arnaud's Estate was filed 28 Sep 1843 by William W. Griffin of Franklin Parish, La. as Administrator of the Estate of Ira E. Griffin. Bill for summoning witnesses to Parish Court in 1841 in the civil case entitled, A. R. Samuel Glen, Jr. appointed Administrator of the Estate of J.B. Cooper, dec'd Dated at Little River, 30 Nov 1843. Rebecca Cooper, John H. Tennison (sic), E. L. Bowen, and A. Smith, of Lawrence Co., MS state that David B. Cooper, a resident of Lawrence Co., MS died in Catahoula Parish, La. and is reputedly a son of William Cooper, dec'd formerly a resident of Lawrence Co., MS and Phebe Cooper, still living, and that Martha J. Caldwell of Hancock Co., MS, wife of John B. Caldwell and Mary Davis, wife of Samuel W. Davis, are the respected sisters of D. B. Cooper and they are the only 3 children that Phebe Cooper ever had and D. B. Cooper was never married. Dated 20 Mar 1843. Samuel Glenn, Jr. a resident on Little River, applied and was appointed as Estate Curator on 6 Jan 1843. Glenn, as the Curator, was sued by J. B. Caldwell, having been given Power of Attorney by the Heirs of D. B. Cooper, because the slaves being used by D. B.'s Estate, actually belong to his father's Estate and were removed from Mississippi without authority and there being a mortgage on the slave in the name of the Estate of William Cooper. Letter dated at Monticello, MS 27 May 1843 from Phebe Cooper written to Samuel Glenn, Jr. demanding the property (slaves) be released and returned to her in Mississippi. Judgment rendered 2 Jan 1844 in favor of the plaintiff, J.B. Caldwell on behalf of the heirs of William Cooper, dec'd. Glenn is to pay all costs, but $30, brought about by this suit. She requests an Inventory of his Estate be made in the interests of herself and the heir of the decedent, Ohria (sic) Denny, wife of Jacob Denny. Order for Inventory dated 26 Nov 1847 and it was done on 1 Dec 1847. Another Inventory dated 23 Mar 1848, includes the land on which the late residence of C. R. Brown is situated, on the Tensas River having 179.75 acres and being the entire NW4 of Section 27, Township 9 North, Range 9 East, having presently 15 acres under cultivation. Also, 27 acres adjoining on the north the above tract, being that land purchased from Coco. Also, 5 slaves. Petition for Adminstration dated 28 Feb 1848 by George G. Russell of Concordia Parish, he was appointed Estate Sale not dated - Jacob Denny purchased the land and slaves for $3000.00, Mary Brown bought the household and kitchen furniture for $5.00. Undated, Tilphey (sic) Smith and Mary Daley (sic, Daily), heirs of Priscilla Corbett, dec'd of behalf of their share of their uncle's estate. 18 Feb 1826 - Appointment of Representatives for the Absent Heirs in the Estate of Benjamin Corbet (sic), dec'd by Samuel Lightner, Judge of Probates in Catahoula Parish District Court, to sell the plantation owned in indivision by the heirs: Prisilla (sic) Corbet, widow and relict of said dec'd; George W. Rider, representative of the heirs of Brinkly (sic) Corbet, dec'd; Moses Burnett, representative of the heirs of Joseph Corbet, dec'd; Henry Olerry (sic, O'Leary?), representative of the heirs of James Corbett (sic); Thomas Grayson, representative of Hanah (sic) Corbett; James P. Wall, representative of Prisilla Corbet; James Desha, representative of Mary Powers. James Desha and James Caldwell were appointed to divide the property into two lots. Lot two drawn on behalf of the heirs of Banj. Corbett and Lot one drawn on behalf of the widow, Prisilla Corbet. Received of Samuel Lightner, Judge of the Parish of Catahoula, five hundred [and ninety eight is interlined] dollars, being the amount due me from the Succession of my uncle, Benjamin Corbitt (sic), deceased, as my part of said estate. Note from [illegible] McDowell, cotton broker in New Orleans dated at New Orleans, 15 Mar 1825, re: Estate of Benj. Corbett. The cotton on Bouef Prairie was killed this year by the drouth (sic, drought), it has no staple and is generally very blue and trashy. Receipt dated 13 Jan 1828, Luranah (sic) Flour (sic) acknowledges having received his portion of the Estate of Benj. Corbett from Samuel Lightner, Judge. Letter dated 14 May 1828 from Susan Flowers requesting Judge Samuel Lightner send her money to pay a debt to Jan Campeld (sic, Campbell). Her security will be Cranze or Orange Clark. If you won't send the money, ask Mr. Goldman to ask Mr. King or Stampley to give it to me. Receipt, 15 May 1828, Mrs. Compton [no further identification] of Mississippi, represented by her attorney, S. B. Stampley, receives her share in the Estate of Benj. Corbett. Bryan, Parish Tax Collector for the year 1825. Promissory Note of Joab J. Collen (sic, Collins?) dated 1 Oct 1826, to deliver 12 bushels of corn to Mary Cathey's house. Letter dated at Sicily Island on 30 Nov 1827, written by Samuel Lightner to Mrs. Mary Cathey on Deer Creek, requesting on behalf of the children of Andrew W. Cathey: George & James Cathey, asking that she settle the estate as soon as possible, so that he may be released from his Curator's bond. Letter dated 20 Nov 1828 written by P. M. Blackstone to Mrs. Mary Cathey on By You [Bayou] Mason [Macon]. Receipt dated 30 Sep 1831 of Jacob Newcomer on behalf of Mary Cathey, now Mary Newcomer. Inventory dated 16 Feb 1829 of the Estate of Mary Cathey, dec'd. Heirs of Mary Cathey met to decide what to do with the property. Meeting composed of Frederick Kiper, Benjamin B. Bruce, James & George W. Cathey, and Jacob Newcomer, all relatives of the deceased. Harman Dash Junior bought the land and Pleasant M. Blackstone bought the slaves. Joel Keenan bought the largest lot of corn for 26 cents per bushel, the largest lot of fodder for 25 cents per hundred pounds. Robert Miller bought a negro named, Robinson and 42 head of cattle at $8.12 per head. Susannah Blackstone bought a negro named, Jack and a family of slaves, Corbin, his wife Hett (sic) and the children. She also bought a lot of hogs and one horse. J. W. Buie bought 160 acres on Deer Creek. D. P. Wiggins bought 2 lots in the Town of Trinity for $9 cash. T. Phelps bought 2 lots in the Town of Benton [Bossier Parish?] for $9.75 payable in 12 months.
