All exracted probate records (File prob029) ; Catahoula Par., Louisiana Probate records submitted by Houston Tracy, Jr Date: 9/25/99 ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** These abstracts were taken from the Original Probate files and loose Original records recovered from the basement of the courthouse in Harrisonburg, La. They are not a complete listing. It seems, that when the courthouse was last remodeled and the addition was made to the original structure, which houses the Clerk of Court's office and other offices, that an effort was made by the Mr. Book who was then Clerk to arrange the loose originals in time for the rededication of the courthouse and corresponding with the American Bi-centennial Celebration in 1976. Time ran short and many errors in stuffing the envelopes occurred in filing. A volunteer later created an index, but only used the name on the envelope, not the actual contents, some which should actually have been placed in another file. Note: No File Numbers were noted by the transcriber for the remaining items. Or these were some of the loose papers rescued from the basement of the old portion of the courthouse. === John Campbell, acting on account of his wife Mary, legitimate daughter of James Creswell, dec'd, represents that Rezin Creswell (sic, Criswell), late of this parish, recently departed this life, leaving neither ascendents nor descendents to inherit his estate. John's wife, being the nearest living collateral relative and legal heiress, opposes the application of Keturah Creswell, widow of Rezin, nee Hollis (sic, Holly?). Note: 3 recorded marriages for Keturah in Catahoula Parish: Wilson R. Squyres 13 Feb 1836; Thomas Bryan 28 Mar 1838; Isaac Hollis (sic) 9 Jul 1839. She is shown in her first marriage as Keturey Matlock in Marriage Book E, page 178. and John Seay to be appointed Administrators of the estate. Keturah and Rezin's marriage date is shown to have been in Catahoula Parish on 20 Aug 1840. Although the petition itself is not dated, on the outside is the date of filing, 17 Nov 1840. Appeared Mary Creswell, wife of John Campbell, Narcissa C., wife of John Seay and Nancy, wife of Richard Doyal, who declare that they are the sole and only legitimate children of James Creswell, dec'd, late of this parish and brother of Rezin Creswell, dec'd. Mary is the child of James' first marriage and Narcissa and Nancy by his second marriage. Their uncle, Rezin died on October 30, 1840. They agree to live on the property undivided until 1 Jan 1842. Done this 28th day November 1840. [signed] Jas. G. Taliaferro, Par. Jud. Separate slip of paper, undated or signed, but of the same period, shows Rezin had 3 children by his 1st marriage. 1 died before his 2nd marriage and the other 2 after that marriage [to Keturah].
