Hough of Caldwell Parish, La. of the first part and Preston Neathery of Catahoula Parish, La. of the second part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of twenty one Bales to be paid by the second named party to the first in the following manner and time. Viz: Seven Bales to be paid on the first of December 1870. Seven Bales on the first of December 1871, and Seven Bales on the first of December 1872. For which the second named party executes his three promissory notes bearing each date with this Instrument in favor of Thos J. Hough or bearer for seven Bales of good Nonchantable Cotton, of good quality Each Bale to average Four hundred lbs each, in consideration of which the first named party hereby sells transfers & conveys to the second named party all that parcel or tract of Land lying on Chickasaw Bayou in Catahoula Parish, La. the same place that the purchaser now resides on and being the same that was purchased by this vendor of Mrs. Sarah H. Chadwick consisting of three hundred and twenty acres more or less, To have and to hold the aforesaid tract or parcel of Land to the aforesaid Preston Neathery, his heirs and assigns forever. But in order more fully to secure the faithful & prompt payment of the foregoing notes and interests thereon occurring a special mortgage is hereby retained on the foregoing mentioned Lands in form of this vendor or the holders of said notes, to stand so mortgaged and hypothecated until final and full payment of the aforesaid notes to draw Eight per cent Interest per annum from their respective maturities until paid.
