from the period of the discovery of the New World
to the present time.  New York: Jewish Press Pub.
Co., 1912 
 
Mentions that the first Jewish agricultural
colony of the period of Russian Jewish
immigration here in the late 1800s was founded on
Sicily Island, Catahoula Parish, La.  They were
quickly flooded out by the Mississippi in the
spring of 1882, scattering.  Some went on to MO
and KS.
