Madison Wells, Governor of the State of Louisiana, or his successors in office in the just and full sum of Three Hundred Dollars for the full and final payment of which sum we hereby bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, firmly by these presents. This the 16th day of April, A.D. 1886. The condition of the above obligation is such that if there exists no legal impediment to the Celebration of a Marriage between the above bounden Manson Brown as aforesaid, and Mrs. Amanda Bass, then the above obligation to be null and void, otherwise to remain in full force and effect. Blake **Submitter's notes: This was Ellen Amanda Thacker Bass' second marriage. She was the daughter of William Davis Thacker and MaLinda Jones Thacker and was born circa 1842, died 10 August 1893. Manson Brown was the son of James Brown and Elizabeth Simmons Brown and this was his second marriage. He was born circa 1816 and died circa 1879. Yes, there was a 26-year gap between their ages.
