The Petition of Jefferson W. COOK of said Parish & State with respect showth that he has two minor children issues of Benjamin GOODSON & Minerva J. Hawthorn both (deceased) now under his care & protection to wit: Teledi M. GOODSON & Mary V. GOODSON that there is no Tutor or Guardian for Said children - that he is their Uncle - that said minors are wholly destitute - having no property whatsoever in this State - that it is necessary that some one Should be appointed to represent Their interest & provide for them that there is no one in your said State legally authorized to the Tutorship [of the] minors by operation of Law. Wherefore he prays to be appointed Tutor for Said minors also that James M. Cook/Claiborne Parish, Louisiana Benjamin Goodson Tutorship Probate #2562/1869 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- To the Hon. Judge of the Parish Court of Claiborne Parish, La. The petition of Jas. M. COOK a resident of Bienville Parish said State respectfully represents unto your Hon. Court that on or about the 27th day of October 1866 that Jefferson W. COOK was duly appointed Tutor & your petitioner under Tutor for the minor children of Benjamin GOODSON who died resident of your Said Parish of Claiborne & that sometime about the 11th of August 1868 the Said Tutor Jefferson W. COOK died & that there is no one now acting as Tutor to Said Minors & that their Mother is also dead & that there is no one who is now entitled by Law to the Tutorship to said Minor Children & that they have no property in this State but probably have some interest in the State of Mississippi wherefore premises considered Petitioner prays that he be appointed Tutor & that Pleasant R. BEARD of Claiborne Parish be appointed under Tutor for the following minors of Said Benjamin GOODSON, Decd to wit Telidia M. & Mary V. GOODSON & that be appointed without giving Bond, he being the nearest relative to minors. Petitioner prays that letters of Tutorship issued immediately & for costs & general relief & __. Signed: H.
