Question, 1st Did you Fredrick Miller Cultivate on the Northwest quarter of section No. 14 in Township No. 20 North, range No. 8 West in the year 1838? Answer Yes, I did. Question, 2nd Are you an actual settler on the land sought to be entered? Answer Yes, I am. Question, 3rd Are you either the head of a family or over twenty-one years of age? Answer Yes, I have a wife and eight children and I am over twenty one years of age. Question, 4th Were you a house keeper, and in possession, by personal residence on said quarter section on the 22nd day of June, 1838 and on the 22nd day of February, 1838. Answer Yes, I was and I am still. Question,5th What is the nature and extent of your improvement? Answer I have about thirty acres in cultivation and under fence, a dwelling house and other out houses. Question,6th Does any other person Cultivate on the same quarter section with you? Answer No. Question,7th Are there any other person who are entitled to the right of pre-emption on said land, under any of the acts of Congress passed in the year 1814, 1830,1832, 834 or 1838? Answer No. Fredrick Miller (signed) Sworn to and subscribed before me this 5 day of January 1839 J. Holmes, Justice of the Peace Parish of Natchitoches State of Louisiana ALSO, at the same time and place and under the same solemnities personally appeared William Hawkins who answered under Oath the following Questions propounded to him by me, the undersigned Justice of the Peace, in relation to a right of pre-emption which is claimed by Fredrick Miller under the act of Congress passed and approved on the 22nd day of June 1838. Question, 1st Did Fredrick Miller Cultivate on the Northwest quarter section of No. 14 in Township no. 20 North, Range No. 8 West in the year 1838. Answer Yes, he did. Question 2nd How do you know that he Cultivates said quarter. Answer By having examined the **** and tracing the lines thereof. Question 3rd Is Fredrick Miller the actual settler on the land sought to be entered. Answer Yes he is. Question 4th State what you know in relation to Fredrick Miller being the head of family or over twenty-one years of age. Answer He is the head of a family he has a wife and several children and is over twenty one years of age. Question 5th Was Fredrick Miller a house keeper, and in possession, by personal residence on said quarter on the 22nd day of June, 1838 and on the 22d day of February, 1838. Answer Yes he was and is still. Question 6th Does any other person Cultivate on the said quarter with him. Answer No. Question 7th Do you know of any other person entitled to a right or pre-emption on said land under any of the acts of Congress passed in the years 1814,1830,1832 and in 1838. Holmes Justice of the Peace Parish of Natchitoches State of Louisiana No. 98 Receiver's Office at Natchitoches La. 7th January 1839 IT IS HEREBY CERTIFIED, That, in pursuance of Law, Fredrick Miller of Claiborne County, State of Louisiana on this day purchased of the Register of this Office, the lot , east half oth the Northwest quarter section of No. fourteen (14) in Township no. twenty (20) North, Range No. eight(8) containing seventy nine acres and fifty-nine hundredths at the rate of at $1.25 per acre, amounting to ninety-nine dollars and 48 3/4 cents per acre, for which the said Fredrick Miller has made payment in full as required by law. Now therefore let it be known That on presentation of this Certificate to the Commissioners of the General Land Office, the said Fredrick Miller shall be entitled to receive a Patent for the lot above described. Lee Register STATE OF LOUISIANA Parish of Claiborne Personally appeared before me Vincent Walker a Justice of the Peace, in and for the Parish of Claiborne, Fredrick Miller who after being duly sworn, says that he entered upon the E1/2 of the NW1/4 quarter of Section No. Fourteen in Township No. twenty of Range No. eight west, in his own right, and exclusively for his own use and benefit, and that he has not directly or indirectly, made any agreement or contract, in any way or manner, with any person or persons whatever, by which the title which he might acquire from the Government of the United State, should inure to the use or benefit of any one except himself, or to convey or transfer the said land, or the title which he may acquire to the same, to any other person or persons whatever, at any subsequent time.
