CLAIBORNE PARISH TIES TO REVOLUTIONARY WAR ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Joan Hough Tomlinson johough@swbell.net April 4, 2007 It should be noted: That all information on the Hough to Blakeney, Claiborne Parish to South Carolina, Revolutionary War tree was placed on it from the official records required for the application for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution by LA & MS descendants of Revolutionary War Captain John BLAKENEY of South Carolina and his soldier son, John BLAKENEY, Jr. Should any descendant of the people listed seek detailed information concerning their ancestor, please correspond with the submitter at joanhough at aol.com or at johough at swbell.net. That Joan HOUGH, the submitter of this tree, was a resident of Claiborne Parish, living on the farm of her grandfather Walter Eugene HOUGH, for the first two years of her life. That Clinton Emmett HOUGH was born in Claiborne Parish to parents who were born and died in Claiborne Parish. He was educated in Claiborne Parish and at LA Tech U. His Hough grandparents Henry Clay HOUGH and Edna Ross MARSHALL are buried at the Gilgal Cemetery. His great grandfather Joel HOUGH is buried somewhere in Claiborne Parish. That despite the listing on the tree-- of Webster Parish as the place of death for Walter Eugene HOUGH, he died on his farm at his residence in Claiborne Parish, almost on the Webster Parish, LA line –with a Minden Rural Route mail address. He is buried at the Gilgal Cemetery. That despite the listing on the tree for Lela Ava ADAMS, she was born in Claiborne, Parish, as well as died there. No official birth or death certificate is available for her; probate records were used for the tree. She is buried at Gilgal Cemetery under the name of Lela ADAMS HOUGH. That despite the listing on the tree-- of Minden, LA as the birth and death places of Claiborne Parish long time resident, Joseph Warren ADAMS, was born and died in Claiborne Parish. His farm and place of residence was almost on the Webster Parish line. The nearest coroner was in Minden, as was the funeral home—thus the incorrect listing on the official LA Death Certificate. Joseph is buried at Gilgal Cemetery. That despite the listing on the tree-- of LA as the place of death of Simeon ALMAND, he died and was buried in front of his residence on his farm in Claiborne Parish, LA. (No official records list this precise location.) That despite the listing on the tree, Rachel LANEY, long time residence of Claiborne Parish, died in Claiborne Parish, LA. No death certificate was available, her place of death was recorded on probate papers only as LA. She is buried at Gilgal Cemetery as Grandmother ALMAND-KEMP. She is, also, the descendant, through her mother; Nancy MAY, of another Revolutionary War soldier by name of Peter BOGGAN. Her father, David LANEY, is the descendant of a Revolutionary War Patriot by name of Titus LANEY. It can, most assuredly, be declared that many of the graves at Gilgal are occupied by Americans who were proud of the fact that those of their blood helped create a civilization out of a wilderness and helped America secede from its unwanted union with England and, in doing so, helped all Americans escape oppressive taxation and grossly unfair laws. My ancestors, buried here at Gilgal, like many others here, were proud that their ancestors fought the good fight that gained liberty for themselves, for their descendants, for their land and for all people now citizens of the USA. Joan HOUGH (HARRINGTON-Tomlinson)
