F. Meadows, Clerk of the District Court, within and for said Parish and State, Mrs. Emma H. Wise, aged 73 years, a resident of the village of Colquitt, Parish of Claiborne and State of Louisiana, who being duly sworn according to law, declares she is the widow of Jasper N. Wise who entered the service of the Confederate States during the civil war under the name of Jasper N. Wise at _________ on the Fall of 1861, in Company C, 19th LA Regt. from the State of Louisiana that he served honorably until surrendered at _______________ on the 1865; and that he remained true to the Confederate States, until the surrender, at which time he was in ______________, as _________; that she was married to the said soldier under the name of Emma Hardy on the 17th day of September 1895, by G. W. Hartsfield at Mt. Lebanon, LA; that she has not married again, and that she is now in indigent circumstances and unable to earn a livelihood by her own labor or skill; that she is not married or otherwise provided for by the State of Louisiana or by any other State or Government; that her said husband died on the 17th day of Sept. 1919, at Colquitt, Louisiana; that she has resided in the State of Louisiana for 73 years next preceding the date of this application, and that she claims the aid and benefit of Article 303 of the Constitution of 1898 and subsequent Acts of the Legislature thereunder, as is further shown by her answers to the following questions, which she swears to be true and correct: 1. Under what circumstances did your husband die? Found dead at home 2. Where is he buried? Colquitt, Louisiana 3. What are your means of support? None 4. What is the value of your property, real and personal, if any? Have none 5. Have you conveyed property to anyone in the past few years? None 6. If any, how much and to whom conveyed? -------- 7. Give your post office address and that of your two witnesses. My address is Colquitt, La., first witness is Homer, La., and second witness is Homer, La. Dear Sir: This Board, in the discharge of its duties under Article 18 of the Constitution of 1921 of the State of Louisiana, and of subsequent acts of the Legislature thereunder, respectfully applies for information from your records, relative to Jasper N. Wise of Company C, 19th Louisiana Regiment, C.S.A. Enlisted in the fall of 1861 and served until the surrender, but exact dates and places of enlistment and parole are not known. C, 19th Louisiana, Inf. C. S. A., enlisted Dec. 11, 1861 at Camp Moore, Tangipahoa, La., and was promoted from Pvt. To Corp. May 8, 1862. On muster roll for Sept. 1, 1864 to Feb. 28, 1865, (last on which borne) is shown: "Deserted October 30, 1864 near Florence, Ala. A subsequent roll on file covers the period March & April 1865.
