I am indexing obituaries from early Ouachita Parish, Louisiana papers and thought this may help someone here. Hope this helps! The Ouachita Telegraph Saturday, January 21, 1871 Page 4, Column 2 Fatal Encounter. The Claiborne Advocate, of the 7th inst., has the following: A difficulty occurred last week between Troy Harrison and Monroe Burns, near Shongaloo, in this parish, resulting in the death of the latter by a frightful cut in the abdomen, and the wounding of the former by a pistol shot. Both parties to this sad affair were men of families. The trouble grew out of a dispute about a negro, that both wanted to hire during the ensuing year. Mr. Burns was an old citizen of the parish and a worthy man and a good citizen, and we sincerely condole with his widow and children in their affliction. Of Mr. Harrison we know but little, but never heard of his being engaged in any other difficulty. # # #
