He was a stanch Baptist, but he was not prejudiced. He loved all Christians and the hungry was never turned away empty, the belated pilgrim was welcomed, and he was truly a good Samaritan. In his politics, he was a Democrat, and Southern to the manner born, a plain man in all his views. As a citizen, he was law-abiding; as a father, devoted; as a husband, faithful. Our community has lost a quiet spirited good man, his aged wife, a loving and faithful husband, and our little church a true member. He leaves a wife, three sons, three daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren to remember his counsel and imitate his examples. He died in the hope of the glory of God, and I can truly write, "Thus saith the Spirit" he rest from his labors and his words do follow him. # # #
