Henderson Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest St. Matthew 12:28 Morris Adam Henderson was born on December 12, 1921 in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana to Alcus Henderson Sr. and Willie Nisely. He was the eldest of five children from this union. He served meritoriously in several European campaigns during World War II and was awarded three bronze stars, victory medal, and qualified as an expert marksman. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to the United States and later married Diana Parker. From this union was born one daughter, Jacqueline Maryse. In 1950, Morris again answered the call of duty, by serving his country in Korea during the war and being awarded another bronze star. In civilian life, Morris was employed with the Utility Body Company in Oakland and Berkeley for more than 30 years, developing into an experienced welder and working as foreman. He was a quiet but hard working individual, who seemed most content just spending time tending his garden or watching a favorite sports match. Despite his failing health over the past year, Morris remained steadfast in continuing his work around the house and in his garden for as long as he was able, without complaint. Regardless how he felt, whenever anyone inquired how he was feeling, his response was always the same, “pretty good,” including several days before his passing…… On June 12, 2009, Morris was called home after being preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Alcus and his sister Lorene. He leaves to forever cherish his memory, Diana, his wife of sixty years, his daughter, Jacqueline and son-in-law, Lawrence Zeigler of Fairfield, his grandsons, Adam and Sean Zeigler of Fairfield, his younger brother James and his wife, Irma Henderson of Oakland, his sister, Mildred Wilson of Richmond, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends.
