Capt. James Cortez Wise, Jr., USAF, Ret. departed this life 22 Feb 2005. He 
was born 25 Jul 1920 in Mansfield, LA, and lived at various times in 
Leesville, LA, Thomasvile, GA. and finally settled in the community of 
Colquitt, near Haynesville, LA where his great-great-grandfather James WISE 
and family were among the early settlers in the 1830s. Mr. Wise was a member 
of the Colquitt Baptist Church.

Mr. Wise is survived by three daughters: Dot Wirth, Sue Knighten, Marie Hardy 
and one son, Bobby Wise; eight grandchildren, Jeanie Wirth; Billy Wirth, David 
Knighten, Thomas Knighten, Michael Knighten, Patrick Knighten, Lauren Wise, 
Brandon Wise, four great grandchildren: Jered Petrie, Derek Wirth, Mason 
Knighten, and Madeline Knighten, and one great-great-granddaughter, Layla 
Petrie. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice Andrews Wise, 
two sons, James Thomas Wise and William Cortez Wise, and his parents, James 
Cortez Wise, Sr. and Ruth Maddox Wise.
