H. Calvert in Houston, Texas, yesterday morning, though not unexpected, came as a shock to her many relatives and friends in Natchez and neighboring Louisiana parishes. For several months she had been fighting valiantly against the dread chemy in Houston, the home of 3 of her children, but the greatest medical skill and the devoted ministrations of loved ones proved ultimately to be in vain, and she passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning at seven-thirty. All of her children, and her sister, Mrs. A. J. Melton, were with her when the end came. Mrs. Calvert was born in Concordia Parish, La., April 1, 1865, the daughter of Dr. Samuel B. Hornsby and Myra Crosgrove Hornsby. She was the wife of the late Andrew T. Calvert, and is survived by two sons Samuel H. Calvert, of Concordia Parish and Andrew T. Calvert of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Jeff D. Farrish and Mrs. Susanne Farrish, both of Houston; two grandchildren, Jeff D. Farrish, Jr., and Samuel H. Calvert, Jr., one sister, Mrs. A. J. Melton of this city and other relatives. Mrs. Calvert was connected by birth and marriage to some of the oldest families in this section of Louisiana and Mississippi. She was a woman of lovely character and rare social graces, and was greatly beloved by a wide circle of relatives and friends because of her affectionate interest in and sympathetic help towards all that concerned them. She was a faithful member of Trinity Church, loyal and active in all its interests. She will be greatly missed. The earthly remains, accompanied by relatives and friends arrived by special car over the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley railway early yesterday morning and the funeral services were held in the Trinity Church this afternoon at 3:30, Rev. Joseph Kuehnle officiating. The following gentlemen served as pall bearers: A. T. Bowie, Jr., F. D. Brown, Joseph F. Dixon, H. C. Bowie, Dr. Temple Smith, George T. Chamberlain, Dr. H. M. Smith, and Joseph Kellogg. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved family.
