   Services for DeVan Carr, 85, of Lake St. John, will be held Thursday,
January 15, 1998 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Natchez under
the direction of Laird Funeral Home of Natchez.  The Rev. Curtis Moffat
will officiate.
   Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of
Laird Funeral Home.
   Visitation will be Wednesday, January 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Laird
Funeral Home, and on Thursday, January 15 from 1 p.m. until service time
at the church.
   He died Monday, January 12, 1998 at Natchez Community Hospital.
   Carr was born February 8, 1912 in Gulfport, Miss.  He was a member of
First Baptist Church of Natchez, a Mason and retired from the Corp of
Engineers with 32 years of service.
   He was preceded in death by his wife, Analoe 'Anne' Jones and brother,
Alton Carr.
