   Funeral services for Monterey Postmaster Joseph J. Godwin, 61, were held Saturday
following his death Thursday at the Jefferson Davis Hospital (in Natchez).  Mr. Godwin,
who died after a long illness had been postmaster at Monterey since 1940.  He was a
native of Monterey.
   Mr. Godwin served as superintendent of the Sunday School of the First Baptist Church
of Monterey.  He was the first teacher of the church.
   Services were held at the Monterey Baptist Church with the Rev Robert Watson and
the Rev O.R. Sober officiating.  Interment was in the Cross Cemetery, under the direction
of Youngs Funeral Home of Ferriday.
   Survivors include the widow, Mrs Mary Godwin, Monterey, a brother George A. Godwin
of Saluda, S.C., a sister Mrs Lucian LeDoux, of Meterie.
