All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** MARTIN (MARTY) NATHANSON DIES IN NATCHEZ Martin (Marty) Nathanson, a retired Vidalia businessman, died Friday at Natchez Regional Medical Center at the age of 87. A native of New York City, Nathanson lived in Vidalia and Natchez since the end of World War II when he moved here with his first wife, the late Beatrice Lopoo Nathanson. The Nathansons owned and operated Marty's Department Store for many years in Vidalia where Nathanson was a member of the Vidalia Lion Club and a direction in Unifed. He later owned Marty's Real Estate in Vidalia before retiring and moving to Natchez. Services were held Monday at Temple B'Nai Israel in Natchez with Rabbi Barry Weinstein officiating. Burial was in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. A graduate of New York University Law School, Nathanson practiced law in New York City until World War II when he served in the Judge Advocate General's Office. He was an accomplished pianist and participated in numerous musical programs in the Natchez-Vidalia area. Nathanson served as lay rabbi of Congregation B'Nai Israel for 25 years until his death. He was credited with keeping the congregation active in the absence of a rabbi. Nathanson was active in the Natchez Rotary Club and served as an associate teacher at Alcorn.
