The Revs. Gordon Finley and Tony Ganey will officiate. Burial will follow at White Family Cemetery in Eva under direc- tion of Comer. Mrs. Herring died Monday, September 24 in Jackson. She was born May 28, 1960 in Ferriday to James and Freddie Jo Powell. She was a life long resident of Monterey and was a mem- ber of Lismore Baptist Church. She graduated from LSU in Alexandria as a registered nurse in 1993. She was preceded in death by her mother; maternal grandparents, George and Mildred Green and her paternal grandparents James B. Sr. and Dora Powell. Survivors include her husband, James D. "Dude" Herring, Monterey; one son, Frank Vogt IV; one daughter, Leigh S. Vogt, both of Monterey; three stepsons, Josh Herring, Ruston, Luke Herring, Monterey; Ethan Herring, Ruston; two stepdaughters, Melissa Cagle, Melody Herring, both of Ruston; her father, J. B. Powell, Monterey; five sisters, Sandra Lanehart and her husband Charles, Dumas, AR; Melanie Walker and her husband James, Lake Charles; Lori Greening and her husband Rusty, Monterey; Teresa Powell and Nicki Powell, both of Monterey and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Pallbearers will be Chuck Lanehart, Charles Lanehart, Mike Jones, Glen Borden, Wayne Vaughn, Josh Herring, Tim Richards, Mitch Dufour and Jacob Lanehart. Honorary pallbearers will be James Walker, Rusty Greening and Jim Walker. ESTELLE SMITH HOLLIS Services for Estelle Smith Hollis, 86, of Farmerville, LA were held Monday, September 24, 2001 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Waymon Swuin officiated. Burial followed at Antioch Cemetery in Spearville, LA under direction of Kilpatrick. Mrs. Hollis died Saturday, September 22 in Farmerville. She was a member of Ferriday Church of Christ, a member of the Ferriday Garden Club and was owner and operator of Hollis Jewelry in Ferriday. She was preceded in death by her husband, David N. Hollis; her parents Rev. J. Duff and Sallie Smith; two brothers, Milas Smith and John Allen Smith and two sisters, Mary Lou Hicks and Sarah Parsons. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Emma and Clarence Brantley, Marion, LA; sister, Lucille Dawson, Bernice, LA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, J. D. and Francis Smith, Dubach, LA; and James and Foye Smith, Farmerville and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were John R. Smith, Fred Dawson, John Brantley, Brad Smith, Danny Smith and Charles Alexander. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews. EDISON SHIELDS Services for Edison Shields, 65, of Carson, CA and formerly of Waterproof will be held Thursday, September 27, 2001 at Choctaw Chapel Baptist Church in Waterproof at 2 p.m. The Rev. Frank Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at Barcelona Cemetery in Waterproof under direction of Concordia. Shields died Saturday, September 15 in Carson, CA. He was born February 13, 1936 in Waterproof to Ray and Annie Bell Shields. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Alfred Shields. Survivors include his mother, Annie Shields, Waterproof; his wife, Ruby Shields, Carson, CA; two sons, Edison Shields, Texas; Ronald Shields, New Orleans; six brothers, Willie Shields, New Orleans; Eugene Marshall, Virginia; Joseph Shields, Riverside, CA; Delaware Shields, Bennie Shields and Ray Shields Jr. all of New Orleans; four sisters, Henrietta Reynolds, Los Angeles, CA; Isabella Tapps, Betty Toledano and Bertha Nelson all of New Orleans; three grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. A. W. TOWNSEND Graveside services for A. W. Townsend, 55, of Rosefield, LA were held Monday, September 10, 2001 at Siloam Cemetery in Aimwell, LA under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. The Rev. David Bailey officiated. Burial followed at Siloam Cemetery. Townsend died Sunday, September 9 at Rapides General Hospital. He was born December 29, 1945 in Harrisonburg to Al and Mary Townsend. He owned Circle Oil Company in Ferriday and was a member of Harrisonburg Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Alton Townsend. Survivors include his wife, Mackie Townsend, Rosefield, LA; his mother, Mary Townsend; two sons, Shane Townsend; Al Townsend Jr., Brookhaven, three daughters, Monyann Nugent, Danielle Townsend, Nicole West all of Rosefield, LA; two sisters, Marie Edwards, Harrisonburg; Rena Poole, Rosefield, LA; two brothers, Gene Townsend, Logansport, LA; James Townsend, Sicily Island; one sister, Shirley Townsend, Vidalia and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were his nephews.
